Installing stables? Cost?

I'm looking to buy my own house soon and would really like to find somewhere with a little bit of land so I can keep the horses at home. However, the sort of properties I can afford need lots of work and don't have stables so I would need to install them.

I'm trying to work out what my maximum budget will be so I'm investigating the cost of stable blocks. I've looked at a couple of companies and they seem to charge around £4000 for a two stable block (uninstalled). Can anyone tell me if this is a reasonable price / how much I should expect to pay? Does anyone have any recommendations for good companies for stables please?

Many thanks:D

Yeah it sounds reasonable to me. Not sure where you are but I looked at Saltire Stables cos they do good timber stables....about that price too.

Ended up not going with that style and having a steel barn instead. But I need 5 stables and we are in a windy location so will be luxurious to be able to work indoors!!

Might be worthwhile you just checking out the cost of a small steel agricultural building....could be competatively priced. Some local authorities are more "comfortable" with farmy looking buildings than timber barns depending on how rural the location is. Or maybe that was just my stupid council! You will need planning permission tho either way.

You will also need to pay out for a good base for the stables to sit on....but you probably already know that!! Unless you are thinking more of a mobile field shelter type thing?

Good luck with your property search.

The cost sounds about right, you may have to up to double it for all the planning, basework and electric and water laying on.

I had a mini barn from Saltire stables recently (we are also in Scotland) and was quite happy with it. It is wood but has stood up to the gales phew!! we are VERY exposed!

I had a block of four timber stables, hay barn and tackroom put up by National Stables about 9 years ago and by the time you add on delivery, planning costs, concrete yard, groundworks, electrics it added upto about £20,000
Do some research and get quotes from as many companies as possible, I went for a price that was in the mid-range of all the quotes I had.... and was very pleased with the results. But do remember that the cost of the stables themselves is just the start...it will cost you alot more than that to get the job completed.

i'd expect to pay at least £3k for 2 wooden stables , possibly near on as much for the base with a bit of a hard standing area , you then have erection costs & electrics & plumbing if required

all in i would be thinking along the lines of £10k for a noce small yard

i have a small yard with 3 stables , tack room , store , concrete fenced yard , 20x30m floodlit sand arena , i recon at todays prices you would be looking at a good £30k to reconstruct it

That's really helpful, thank you everybody. I'd remembered to budget for planning and hard standing but had completely forgotten about electricity and water and the other bits and pieces!!

Off to do my sums again!

Thanks again for the advice.:)
