Hi

I am looking for a Dressage saddle for my short backed horse. The Isabell Werth Deep Seat Dressage saddle was recommended to me.

Does anyone know how many there are I can find a Bates one and a Wintec one they look totally different.

I am in Falmouth Cornwall does anyone know if there is anywhere that do a trial for these saddles they are very expensive and I would like to trial one first before I buy.

I don't know anyone that trials them but you can pick a second hand one up on ebay for about £150.

Last I checked, Equestrian Clearance was the cheapest for these saddles.

I have the Wintec version and am very happy with it. I will be replacing it with the same when it's days are numbered (It is about 8 years old now).

I think there are a few versions. Cair and flock, the PRO ones and obviously Wintec/Bates

Wintec Dressage vs Bates Isabell

I have found somewhere that do trials on the Wintec Isabell Dressage and also the Bates Leather.

I weigh around 71 kilos ( around 10 - 11 stone ) Not sure if I need a 16.5 or a 17" seat.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Old and the New version of the saddle.

Also Which is better Cair or Flock I know the Cair is filled with air .

So far basically new Wintec new style or Bates Old style second hand ( same price ).

Got a saddle fitter coming to check the size or want to get as much of it correct as possible as I have ot use the postal system to trial the saddles.

uhm, I thought that Bates were the leather versions of Wintec saddles ? (Like Kent & Masters to Thorowgood)
I have a synthetic wintec Isabell Werth dressage saddle, for example ...

However, you might have been asking the difference between the Isabell and the wintec pro dressage ?
The Isabell is supposed to be more fixing in the position it puts you in (if you see what I mean ?) whereas the dressage pro is more "open".
Some say that the Isabell suits a horse with a shapely back whereas the pro a flatter back, but I guess your saddle fitter will know best

Anyways, I think the new version (of each model) has big knee blocks now whereas the older version has the more discrete flatter knees.
As to Cair or flock, it's a regular debate and I think it comes down to individual preference (horse as well as rider). Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages and let's face it, horses don't always react the way we'd like/hope :giggle:

Good luck in your saddle hunt !

Hi Stormin

Yes you are correct , It was the difference between the old style and the new style as they look totally different side by side. The old style Wintec Isabell is around £499 whereas the new style is about £700.

The leather Bates one is about £500 second hand for the old version and £1600 for the new version.

Basically not sure if I should try a second hand old version leather or the New version Wintec Isabell synthetic.

Do you think it would be worth testing both or would they be very simular ?

I was going to trial a new Wintec Isabell and maybe a second hand Susanna Dressage just for a comparison.... As I have to buy the saddles then be reimbursed when I send them back, just pay for the postage
or
I can trial the New Wintec Isabell , The Susanna and also the Bates (Old Style Leather Isabell ) all together it will cost around £1700 but I would have to guess the size Im thinking 17".

I will have to guess with the Wintec and take a chance and order the Cair or the Flock ( Probably go for the Cair ).

Thanks for your help
