I've been battling my horse's seedy toe in both fronts for some time now. He lives out 24/7 and is barefoot, and first picked it up in one foot last October. Since then the other foot also has it, despite him havng his feet regularly trimmed every 6 weeks and despite his hooves being in good condition. My farrier has been cutting "sections" in the front of each to expose the infected area to the air, so my horse has had a winter of looking like a cow!
The last time they were trimmed my farrier says the seedy toe looks to have gone but there is still a bit of a cavity and he suggested getting hold of some hoof putty. He has tried putting this in before but it fell out quite quickly. I just wondered if anyone has any experiences of using this? Do I run the risk of trapping any infection that may be left?
