laminitis now abscess 2

Afternoon all....

My goodness its busy, just had 3 pages to catch up on!!! This bloody rain and humidity is sending the grass mad....a very bad thing for these lammis & fatties!!!

Dolly has recovered from her colic, shes still quiet, but I expect that. I've just let her out for a few hours as the grass will make her balloon. Vickys feet have been great....stone cold and deifinately lost some weight (not that she was big in the first place!) Shes' quite happy in her tiny turnout area with her muzzle on, she comes in starving, but given a chance, this pony would eat for Britain! Hopefully, I've caught her and I can manage her from now on....I so didn't need this:(

Hows Bobs today... I used to notice with Lucy that she became stiff/creaky whenever it was damp, those feet have taken a lot and the damp does not help at all....I would definately pop the mag boots on!!

Wheres Nani at the moment???? PFB, have the masks arrived yet.... was thinking about you this morning as the pony next to mine has hideous allergies and they've never got to the bottom of it, her tail looks just like a loo brush and she scrapes her sides along the stable walls and stamps her feet all the time, shes a lammi as well, poor girly! My big girl just headshakes in the summer season and rubs her eyes and head, so more a pollen issue I feel!

Bigmare - Debbie (Dolly & Vicky's mum! and my adored lammi pony who past away in Jan - Lucy) - shes why I was so involved in the original lammi thread.
 
Yeah masks arrived, but they're huge :confused: I ordered pony size, but they are massive compared to half mask :confused: but hey ho - shes gone out sporting it anyway :p I bought a half mask end of lask week, shes trashed it over the weekend - so not sure how long these will last as they are the same. Doh should have given the other one a time test!!!!!

Vet has taken bloods, said she didnt see many cases like it, despite her not being itchy today. Will have the results in 7-10 days. She said even if there is underlying sweet itch shes fairly certain there are other things causing the problem (she has hives over legs, bald tail, scabbed up face, runny nose and eyes, wheezing) and therefore worthwhile testing her. She said it was a "serious chronic condition" and the scarring to mane and tail seemed to surprise her. Which would explain our "corrugated" neck... her tail does the same, silly old me never connected the two - her tail swells once its aggrevated. So we shall wait for those ho hum.

On upside feet ok, still querying this issue of right being shorter than left, cant work out where its coming from - hope its not raining tomorrow - OH said he would make a video of us rding in the field.

Downside, taking rug off shocked me at how much she has piled on over the weekend. Her fat pads on withers are SHOCKING and made me feel ill. Now how to get it back off? Already in 8-12hrs a day.... Only getting through about 3/4 a bale of hay a week between them, so thats not an issue and being given ad lib. Ridden work, gotta keep it slow as unfit and wheezing. She was short on roads, so need to wait for boots for lots of trot work, but in the field she naps so we have to do lots of steady work. In fact... I think I might make another thread.... :D

PFB.... poor you.... really feeling for that pony..... Maybe look at metabolic tests???? My Lucy ( the pony we lost) was a strange one.... not overweight at all, no crest etc, BUT a chronic lammi case. I had to make sure she never had any proteins or sugars ( never a polo, carrot, apple etc) as long as we were religious about this, all was OK.... as soon as the weather changed... so did she. Saying that, Vicky came in tonight after 5 hrs on a crappy resrticted area with a muzzle with warm feet and a bloody crest:eek: ....what the hell goes on????????? Dolly my bigmare was itching and snorting like a mare possesed tonight, haven't seen her this bad in weeks:confused::confused::confused: I was chatting on the yard tonight and we all saying no one remembers things like this when we were kids with our ponys??? yes they got fat, but none of this stuff..... makes you think. On an up note, at the price the masks were, if shes gonna trash them, at least they weren't mega bucks!;)

ps..... Dolly has totally exploded in weight since the weekend, despite being poorly.... fat pads/crest HUGE.... only out for 3 hrs today and like an elephant........?????????? please someone explain what is going on?????

See oddly enough this mild and damp has been a blessing she isn't bothered in the slightest. She's content, still depressed and withdrawn but much less agitated and fidgety. She didn't itch once while vet was there! Thangully reaction lumps go that quick!

Still got boots and now this... But ever optimistic the last large bill. Secretly hoping insurance will pay out but we shall see. Glad I had videos and pics too as gave vet a better idea.

So nice to have support, mum just tells me she costs me too much and everything seems to be wrong with her. Oh great although not horsey so try to. Not burn ears off !!!!
 
Evening all! bloody murky here today and tonight, drizzle wish it would just pour down for a couple of hours then bu**er off!! Acorn fine tonight, slow coming in, sound enough just didn't want to:rolleyes: so any and every excuse to nap, I am sure you know what I mean. Eaten his Tea but not touched his hay, went down at 9.00 and he was having a nap, quick to get up when I collected his bucket - think he though extra's where coming instead of the crappy hay - I did tell him he should know by now that ain't gonna happen.

Moody Mare is in season, think it is the arrival of about 6 geldings in the field next door - Charlie is on his toes trying to mount her and then pelts around when he don't get anywhere in fustration:) messy bum on him tonight with the grass being wet I think so Claire can wash that off in the morning. This new lammi suppliment we put them two on has had an effect on Tess, thats the only thing we can think of, normally as soon as she has summer grass she has cow pats all summer, since going on the suppliment she is steadily getting more normal poo's that she would have in winter,been on it 5 days now so obviously in her system, Charlies where firming up except for today there was a couple of sloppy ones - think he and Acorn may have a day together tomorrow , keep him off the long stuff for a day, might get rid of some of his tum!

Hi Debbie, glad both okay - great to hear from you, I know what you mean by the time I have read through catching up - my old memory loses the plot, I have to keep scanning up down on replies........

Feet, oddsize, yes Acorns fronts are, the one most lammi effected slightly larger than the other, Farrier Trims them and they are slowly getting closer to a match as you would expect.

Well the Lammi prone is keeping the weight down on Acorn and Tracey feels it is keeping Bobs trim as well -have you tried it at all? min'st will all whats going on maybe changing anything at mo wouldn't be right time? its so difficult once its on to get it off, as you say once you get the boots and can up the exercise that should help.
 
This reaction is new this year... So either developed through stress or not present last summer.

Boots will be good, we have black pads for them??? Going to order today.

Want the results back now lol, hopefully will be a good day today weather looks rubbish! No loose poos our end but her tummy isnt sensitive like that! We had poop like that with last allergy flare up but nothing in relation to grass, its stress/depression related.

Ps. Im Clare and mummy to Silver who has chronic allergies and suspected previous lami but gets foot sore. Is a prime candidate for lami. Also mummy for Rascal who is what it says on tin. He's a min shetland who's nickname is captain chaos!
 
Took Heidi in last night and very, very sore and stiff.
Heat in one front foot and slight in one back.
Grass is growing like mad with rain.
The owners are back tonight but I don't feel she is ready to be out.
They can decide what to do but I don't see the point in her being out if she hobbles in barely able to walk.
I got a number for anothr vet from Happyhacker101 so will pass it to the owners and let them decide what to do.:confused:
 
Clashnoir, I do feel for your situation.

If she is very pottery outside with access to grass, she will need to in, or turned out in small soft bare area with hay.

The problem with turning out is the possibility of a secondary attack from concussion.
 
I'm Kath pony is Ben,laminitic & has mild sweetitch, Ben that is not me :).His feet seem fine at the moment,but I always give him less time out if he seems tender over stones when ridden.If I only had my own place would have an acre of red ash pebbles etc.:)then he could be out 24/7.When he's in a lot I do hack him out every day rather than school as then I feel at least he's seen something.Can't believe how much the blessed grass has grown the last few days I could cry.
 
Morning all, hope we find all hooves well this morning........

Its dry here,no rain forecast but cold and windy! Acorn up in the field playing with Charlie this morning, he's back to the mounting game again which totally baffles Charlie:rolleyes: He was fine yesterday, this morning a little short on one front going up but otherwise fine, looking at the feet can just see a bit of daylight at the toe so have rung the farrier and hes coming tomorrow morning to trim him up (3 weeks) rather than risk another week and him going lame on us , suspect heel height and toe length just at the point of going OTT, so will be a slow walk down to the stables tonight if it goes to form, then it will be back to boots after his trim tomorrow for roadwork for a few days, hopefully with not letting them go OTT we won't have any major issues post trim,there are lots of changes going on with the sole and frogs as they get back to normal.

Any results back yet? suppose may be a little early.........

Hows Bobs and Vicky doing..........

Lol Captain Chaos baffles people. He is half dog half human. He's totally fearless, chases dogs sticks and balls (and then runs off with them - baffles the dogs!!), and just bounces back and back and back. Everything is a massive game to him - Trimmer totally baffled by him - we tried everyway we could think of to get him to pick his feet up nicely, but he's got concentration span of a gnat - he can't even get the oh if I do this I get a treat thing - he seems to only be able to hold one thought at a time - its OOOOHHHHHHHHHH TREAT WHERE IS IT WHERE WHERE WHERE - can't figure the way he has to get it. That said we managed the "challenge" thing this morning, and second day in the row we had a reasonable attempt at backing up.

Silver is good again today - her eyes were bleeding this morning, but otherwise, shes not itchy again *touches wood really really hard!!!* feet seem good - hoping boots will arrive today, but probably a bit optimistic! :p

:D thats just being a shetland, p.s. its not that they are thick, they are that bright they just act it to get their own way!
 
He's not thick at all, he's really smart - but just has serious concentration issues. Every two or three seconds hes off looking at something else - you put him on a rope and its Oh grass, oh on a rope, oh your here, oh fly, oh grass, oh where is silver, oh fly, oh flower, oh oh oh :D He makes me dizzy :eek:

after noon all good to see everybody well. am tracy and am pennyless :) ( mum to bobcat ) bobs for short :) well bobs front feet doing well no boots but lame on back leg, went to walk him out of stable this morin and he just stood there back leg leg up and holding it .. well tears just fell down my face.. could not belive it.. dont no if hes putted it or just stiff... been sore on it now for 2 days. every morin .. so gave him pain killer y-day and today. just could not stop crying this morin... poor boy hes been throw so much, now as am getting front right hes sore on back.. put his back on track boots on but its not his hocks its his hip that what it looks like to me.. there is no heat or swelling as i can see.. any advise ??

B-Hell Tracey, when you say he stood there with it up? is he putting weight on it? is there any heat in the back foot at all? just trying to elimate the abcess possibility in that back foot - but his foot would be hot with /without swelling in the leg etc, Acorn never has swelling with abcess, have you tried testing the foot, if it is then you will get an immediate reaction to tapping it.
if there in no swelling to the leg itself then if you press around the hip areas is he giving you any reaction, normally they do - failing that another Vet Bill or ask Richard, its difficult - whats he like if you walk him out or won't he?

check his hoof just incase somethink in there that i have missed. but nothing his hooves are changing all old sole is coming away full frog came off the other day , there is no heat in hoof, ive pressed all hip area there is no sign of pain but when your pressing on his hip he seems to lean into you? as he likes it , dosent step away. but as he stands his leg which is sore is turn out? he walking on it now but is that because ive giving him a painkiller? but you can still tell it stiff? looking.. just dont no.. richard away till 20th but bobs trim is 24th. dont even no its because his hooves are changing is he off set. ? which is putting pressher on joints.. just dont no god my head is up my a** ive just rang global herbs and got a joint power for him. he may need bit of help with joint now. just dont no.. do no i could scream....

As usual, nothing is ever simple with madam... One boot fits, the other one comes off :mad: doesn't twist when put on, but comes off with movement. And thats the smallest they make in the gloves. Hoping they will let me keep them until trimmer is next out and she will see if it can be fastened with a power strap. If not both sets will be on their way back tomorrow... boohoo.
