Looking at horse for sale- What do you think?

Its hard to say from such a brief description. It would be easier if it said her winnings and breeding, but she is very pretty and certainly looks talented, so i'd say around the region of £5-6000.

:) very pretty looking horse but i agree with above post....description is very small. i would say no more than £6500:D

Oh, I don't know, I'd be buying the colt in a heartbeat, but that's because I'm a sucker for Weltmeyer offspring.

Anyhoo ;)

I like the TB mare, although she does appear to be quite long i the back (no worries, lots of TBs are) She also appears to be quite angular...not sure if it's the angle of the pics, but it looks like her back is sunken in and her butt is higher then anything-you'd have to look at that if you went out to ride her.

She seems to have an understanding of the basics (many don't put TBs into dressage, so they lack the fundamentals) but she IS still a TB, which will lower her price.

I'd think a fair price for her would be ohh...6-8k.

How exciting for you.
Can you tell us what kind of training she has?
I usually like TBs with shorter backs but it's hard to tell for me with the rider on...
It looks like there is a dip in front of the croup but again might just be the picture. Any pictures without tack?

OK. Just saw SA'a post. Are you serious? Around here it's the QHs that have long backs. TBs in my mind are supposed to be more square rather than rectangular.
I looked at the croup picture some more and I would say her coupling appears weak. (Now I am anxiously waiting for chev to appear, shake her head and say "no, no, Karin, you have learned nothing of what I taught you. Her coupling is perfect". LOL :D)

Those too. I just end up seeing and riding a lot of TBs, mostly from the track...and very few of them have short backs. I find characteristically, TBs have long backs and shark fin withers

yeah definately, i live in california and all the tbs i know usually have long backs and huge withers. the quarters are usually socky and square.

i'd be a little wary of the 'wonderful prospect' part. At 12 years old she should have been out winning, yet the description sounds more like one for a young horse which leads me to believe she hasn't done much or has perhaps had some problems. i have no awareness of price outside the UK, so can't help with that.

Personally, I don't like the look of her at all - she looks almost sway backed, and very overbent. For a 12 yo to be worth 6,000 I'd want proven winnings at something reasonable, or a genuine schoolmaster type. Like Lucy J I don't think any 12 yo is a 'prospect'! I'd have thought more like 2,500 - 3,000, to be honest...

I agree with StormArion & Ross, she does look long in the back & really seems to have a dip. As well, you can tell that she was put in that position to look pretty (which she does seem to be regardless), the poll should not be the highest point. You can tell that she isn't carrying herself properly.

I would love to see a photo of her only in her halter.

I'd say she's probably in the $6000 range easily if she has done other work (jumping) successfully and depending of her pedigree. If she is worth more that would mean that she still has lots to offer, (and probably with dressage; learn to carry herself much better), has a great pedigree therefore could throw excellent quality foals.

12 is really not that old if she has experience to give you & she can progress.

Again: a very pretty mare!

What would be your plans for her?

hmmm? We're deranged? You mean we pay high prices? Hmmm? is that what you mean?

Maybe...but then again it depends where you look:rolleyes:

When I was looking for a replacement for Ariel (when I was told she was a walking timebomb), I'd found some really lovely 2 & 3yrs olds with very good potential & pedigrees as well, for $2000. So...

but that's not apples & apples comparisson. This horse is 12yrs old.

Oh I did adopt a grand prix mare (hunter/jumper & dressage) when she was 18yrs old. Had I known what her past was & her real age, I would've definitly had her bred with a quality stallion. Oh well...

LOL I am from Peterborough Originaly - and lived in Markham.

I could never make hide nor hair of "market value" of horses there :) Then again people always seemed willing to pay it. We used to go to Barky's auction and buy up the Throughbreds for about 500$ a pop - and turn em around for big BIG bucks with minimal effort.

Here I usually CAN make heads or tails of it.. and you can plainly see when someone is unaware of what the horse Is ACTUALLY worth in both directions ;)
