Losing stirrups suddenly?

LMS- I dropped my stirrups a hole and forced myself to hold my leg in the normal position until it is becoming natural to have my leg in a normal position. Also, lots of lunge lessons are helping.

Cupcake- I have a wintec 2000 all-purpose.

You know...I had the same problem your original post was about the other day when I rode english again for the first time in about 8 months - guess what the problem was? My stirrups were too SHORT :) Just like you, I dropped them a hole and they were much better! I'm glad you are doing better :D

I was only poking fun re the duck tape! Don't affix with it: it wont break if there's a problem.

But one thing did come to mind & we do this all the time with our clients that can't keep their feet in: elastics! You need 2 elastics one looped through the other so they end up looking like an eight. One end is put on the foot at the ball of the foot. Put your foot in the stirrup like usual with the othe piece of elastic dangling under (on the side of the ankle) which you grab & bring under the stirrup bar & put on the foot again to the front.

I have no clue if this made sense, I really am not good at explaining this only verbally. I guess I should take pics & post them.

Anyhoo, one thing to remember too about having difficulty maintaining the correct position in a saddle is that you need to make sure that the saddle is the right shape for the rider as well otherwise you'll always be fighting it and that's no fun at all. Makes you feel like you're a crap rider when in reality you're not.

There's one saddle that I have this problem with. I was always loosing at least one stirrup & my legs were always creeping forward. I really felt like I had regressed & blamed myself for letting my body go (flabby & overweight), cursed being middle aged yadda yadda.

Then my coach had a really good look at the saddle & that was the problem, a quick fix was restuffing it in the cantle to raise it more. A better solution would've been a new saddle but that was not feasable.

And the stirrup bars on WL's saddle are placed quite far forward so that if she does concentrate on getting her legs under her, then she's very likely to find her feet coming out the back of them.

Now I smell funny good lord..

No.. no BHS.. EC level 3 coach in Canada.. but apparently they don't call it that anymore it's so old ;) Instructor, Eventer, Barrel Racer, Reiner.. but North American so none of it actually counts Right Kate :)

So really I don't have a Clue what I was "on about"

Well, I'll put in my two cents, I guess.

If you are finding that you are unable to keep weight in your stirrups, generally its a sign that the stirrups are too long - so you're constantly trying to reach down to put weight in them, but consequently you're lifting yourself up from the saddle which is causing the stirrups to shift back and tilt you forward.

However, if you find that your leg is too far forward in the saddle, it means that your stirrups are in fact too short and that they are compressing the line of your knee to upper thigh too much.

So guess you just have to figure out which seems to be the biggest problem-are they sliding too far forward or too far back?

Pssst it's your Eau de Cheval... did you check the jug? May have expired ya know!:p

And again if coach level 3 is no longer the term being used well... I think you just may have to start all over again to get the new title EC has come up with;):D But then again since Canada is such a placid little country, I guess whatever qualifications we give ourselves (did you get the latest one from Cracker Jack?) are only good in our country alone? Hmmm sounds like the Cuban money...

My humour's a bit off today, got heat exhaustion yesterday (borderline heat stroke) so... to me the voices in my head sound pretty funny right now:cool:
