Saw it in my local tack shop and was wondering if it's any good?
Anyone had any experiences with it, good or bad?
I have the powdered form at the moment, the one in the tub, but was thinking of getting the instant stuff for situations like shows or if i get my nerve up to school Springer, as he gets very tense and wound up in the school (Obviously i won't use it everytime as we hardly ever school, but would like to see what effect it has on him in that situation.)
Any information pleasee :)
 
It is the same as Naf Magic? we tried this on my daughter's 11.2hh pony, you had to use it over a period of time and I didn't notice any difference (apart from the expense), lots of people swear by it though - or is this one you can use just as a one off?
 
I am sure some of these calmers work as a placebo effect. You think your horse or pony will be calm and relaxed and therefore you relax and they go better or are less tense.

It's relatively new, it comes in a syringe, he's already getting one scoop of the power in one of his meals a day, just thought might be worth trying it ont he odd occasion i feel brave enough to school.
 
Works the same as any calmer, if your horse has a magnesium deficiency. I used it on Heyboy to help getting him clipped.. It made him tad bit less wide-eyed, but don't expect a miraculously calm horse. It took about an hour and half to kick in and the effect wore off after about three hours. Yes, we were still clipping after three hours.. In fact, we were still clipping after four hours at which point we gave up and there was still 1/3 of the horse unclipped.. :rolleyes: But if you knew Heyboy, you wouldn't be surprised at all.. ;)

I tried the Global Herbs one before i started using Magic, but i didn't notice anything when i was using GH, I've started to notice that Springer is alot calmer in situations where he would be tense, like hacking out totally alone (no mum there) or me running at him trying to jump on him bareback :o
Took many tries, but he was an angel :p

It'll work if your horse has low concentration/high irritation due to magnesium deficiency (like me!) ... Our pasture is low on mag so ALL the horses are on a mag supplement (£1.99 from chemist for a 2 month supply - nothing like Naf prices!). Many UK pastures are low on mag, so a lot of times these "calmers" can work .... but it's not so much a calmer as supplementation for a deficiency.
 
I tried a paste for Rhys not long ago in readiness for the farrier (just a trim) and though he stood a little better, he was still a bit wild in the eye.
The problem came when he came down off it... What a downer he had !!!
He went wild for the evening and a little of the next morning. Really pushy and jumpy and seemed to have the 'munchies'. He was starving !!
Never again. I'll stick to more time training and preparation in future.
 
utter waste of money! i bought a syringe of the magic calmer to try on my cob. if anything it hyped him up. gets a big thumbs down from me i'm afraid!
 
Tried Naf Magic but did not seem to have any effect.

Tried V-Calm to no effect

Now use Bluechip Karma...we syringe 20ml into his mouth about 20mins before we ride and this seems to have a beneficial effect on him....mind you, as pointed out earlier in this thread, this could be a placebo effect on us!

I think you have to try a number of these products until you find one that works for your horse / you.
 
I just brought some today.
As i'm running out of the powdered Magic calmer i thought, why don't i just use the instant stuff when i need it isntead of using the powder everyday!
So i'm going to try it at the weekend :)
Hopefully it'll work... but :eek: It takes 1 - 1 and a half hours to kick in :eek::eek:
 
I use then powder on my mare and find it has really made a difference. I have tried the seringe b4 show but she was still squeeling and bucking lol so i think its just her.:)
