Got to move Spirit off this new yard already. I hate it and so does he. And in all honesty I have never met such a bunch of idiot people in all my life

He hadnt even been there 24 hours and all the girls on the yard were crowding round him and basically telling me to find somewhere else to take him because they are scared of him! How can you be scared of him...he's a big softy. Shame he has so much presence...he is the most beautiful horse but looks like he could kill you bless him.

He was terrified after the move and was quite nervous. He is skitty at the best of times but he was really scared after being at the same yard for so long and then suddenly moving. Anyway, I TOLD them to just leave him alone and let him calm down and not to fuss around him. So what do they do...all swarm round him peering over the door at him, popping their stupid heads up at him, going in his stable when I warned them not to and generally panicing him for the first few hours he was there.

He was calling to the other horses outside...which I would say is normal behaviour for a horse and every1 just paniced   Bl**dy weirdo's.

Anyway, I got down there last night and they have been and hammered up a big piece of board and 2 huge planks of wood over the window in his stable so he cant see the other horses 'in case he kicks down the wall and chases all the other horses'???????? For gods sake he has never escaped, never chased horses and never hurt a goddamn fly. Im so upset. He was a jibbering mess when I got to him last night thanks to all the hammering and banging. These are so called horse people who understand that a horse will be nervous after moving for the 1st time ever since being in the country.

Then just because he knocked over his water trough which he does on a regular basis they got some random woman to turn up at my house to tell me he was trying to escape and was trashing his stable!? I got there and he was stood quite as a mouse eating his hay (which surely he wouldnt do if he was going crazy) so I straight away went up to this dead posh yard up the road and they have said I can have one of the brand new stables they are building. They will even build it to how I want and are going to face the windows away from the mares and across the fields!! :D Lot more expensive but its worth it...plus you should see the size of the menage :o;)

Amazing how people who shout their mouth off about how 'horsey' they are and how they know it all end up being the ones who know jack all. The people at the new yard were a lovely couple, very quiet, and you instantly can tell they know what they are talking about and they were really concerned for Spirit...and they have never even met him!

Really shaken up by it all...oh for my own yard. Just got to stick it out for 2 weeks until his new stable is done :(

Soz for the rant...just so mad

The joys of livery yards.

Glad you have found somewhere better to go :)

It is totally understandable for him to be screaming. Box walking, lack of appetite, being noisy and being aggitated are normal responses to being moved. IMO they just need to be left to get on with it. People milling around and hammering bits of wood up is not going to help the situation.. but these types of people always know best

Good luck with your move, hope it all woks out :)

OMG that is unbelieveable!!! Poor horse.

I have encounted ppl/yard like this before. They are just scared and jealous as you have a big impressive looking horse. Reminds me of jez first day at said horrid yard, he went into stable, kicked over his water trug and completely freaked himself out. They all told me he was good for nothing, i'd over horsed myself and YO threatened to shoot him as apparently thats all he was good for!!!! I could go on for hours....anyway, sounds like other yard will be a thousand times nicer. Good luck in surviving the 2 weeks!!!!!

I dont know what their problem is!

One woman came up to me and said 'Listen luv...im not an ogre but ive been here a few years and we dont want everything getting messed about'! I was like ooookaaay well just carry on as you were and thats fine?!

I really think they just hate the fact there is some1 new on the yard. My mum said they most likely have had no excitement on there for a while so they are making the most of it!

I wouldnt mind if he was being naughty but he really isnt...I feel so bad on him. He is taking the move really well but why are they making out he is so bad?? Its so upsetting...and dont upset easily atall. Skin like a rhino me!

It just goes to show that what we all take to be good common horse sense isn't universal :(

I hope the move goes well and although your current yard hasn;t worked out it looks like ths has come for a reason as you are about to fall on your feet

oooh people are rubbish...give me animals any day!!!

I had a similar thing when I moved my lad...we stayed for 3 weeks in the end... rubbish...no turn out and they were all saying he was naughty bad mannered etc....I've moved him and yes he is still a grumpy little wotsit at times be he certainly isn't naughty or bad mannered.... he just has babyish tantrums and is a nosey boy!!...they said similar stuff like he was 'trashing' his stable etc...
I wouldnt worry.... ignore them they are ignorant people...you and your lovely lad will be a lot happier..if a sight poorer lol...down the road ;-) xx

What a shame, poor boy :(

Im going to be moving my two to a livery yard later in the year and i will be SO pi$$ed off if people act like this with mine

Did i read your post correctly.... They hammered planks of wood across his window while he was IN the stable?! If so, you really need to have a rant to the YO before you leave - not only is it stupid and overreacting, its downright cruel  What were they thinking????

If i were you, i'd have him out of there ASAP and make sure to tell them how stupid and unwelcoming they have been. It sounds an awful lot like a thread i read on here recently but refrained from commenting on where the poster didnt want a new person on the yard because they were happy as they are. Im sure they wouldn't have gone to these lengths, but i cannot believe that people would be cruel to your horse to try and get you out  Evil people.

Yeh...on the window that allows him to see through to the other horses, they boarded it up whilst he was in the stable! The YO has gone away but its awkward because he is a friend of my step dads. He is actually a nice guy but kind of lets the girls run the show for a quiet life.

I wish I could throw him in a field for 2 weeks...might go an bat my eye lashes at a farmer lol

Hiya

Sorry to hear what you and your poor boy has been through. I cant believe someone would do that. Best thing to do with a new horse is leave him/her to settle. Stupid people.

Is there anyway you could move him to new yard and keep him at grass there til stable is done. Maybe if you explain the situation they might be able to accomodate him?

I cant leave him out where there will be alot of other horses about with him being a stallion. He is turned out with geldings absolutely fine but it would be the whole introducing him slowly and safely. If I could find a field where he will be on his own until he moves it would be perfect. Might go and have an ask about actually. Loads of fields round here.

The new yard are that kind they actually offered to move all thier horses about and empty the stable they use for bales so he could stay there until his stable is built but I said no. Not fair on thier horses to get unsettled. Was tempting though

Ooh didnt realise he was a stallion! Sorry. Good luck in finding somewhere. Im sure someone will be able to help :) x

Yup...its a pain. Well it shouldnt be really but people do seem to overreact when they know he is entire! Im sure other stallion owners must get it.

He is such a doll though...doesnt even react to the mares when they flirt with him (unless he knows he is covering). He just gives them a nod and gets back to his food! Typical male in my eyes!!

I didn't realise he is a stallion.

I'd be protective of my horse too after what I have just been through with my ex-field mates :o

Your type of problem is the one of the reasons I keep my horse on a farm by himself.

Bloody Pr@tts!!!:eek::mad:

Some people need to get a grip. If you hadnt told them he was a stallion they probably wouldnt have noticed as intelligent as they see ;)

Poor Spirit. I hope this doesnt affect him too much.

Some people do like a horse to have character or a mind of its own they like them to be mindless robots who stand and eat their hay quitely!!

Bunch of idiots! Frankly, if our tiny groom can handle all the stallions at our yard, surely anyone can?? They're sweeties: feisty but no worse than my TB mare! They kick their doors sometimes (but so does our 14h New Forest mare!) and the worst I've had so far is one of them grabbing my jacket so I put my fingers in his mouth to make him let go! And he did-immediately! Even B, Mr Calm, was a bit loopy the first few days at the new yard and my mare was a total nutter and shouted for 2 days non-stop! :o

The annoying thing is that he is seperate from the other horses, isnt turned out with them or even at the same time and he is good as gold in his stable!
He never kicks the door, never lunges at people or horses going past and would never be aggressive.
I spoke to every1 on the yard prior to him coming and they were fine as they realised I am a very responsible owner and evey aware of peoples concerns and yet they have taken none of this on board, havent come to me about any worries and have gone ahead and done everything I asked them not to do!

Talk about being tarred with the same brush!

Just been to check on him again and he was lay down in his stable...hardly a manic, sex crazed stallion :)
