The boots the closest to what I want look like the tall steel toe caps The Original Muck Boot Company do - link here

However, I just wonder if people have experience with these and how much give/room they have up the calf? I struggle to find boots that fit over my legs, wellies are usually too small for me in my size (OH's size 9 usually fit but they're 2-3 sizes too big!) and I'm wondering whether these might eventually cut off my circulation in the leg?

I have fairly wide calves but found the MB to be ok. I did have to go up a size though, one foot bigger than the other thing. Can you try a pair on before you buy?

I bought my muck boots from here
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/midkinleith1m

I have wide calves but can get my legs in these with sock over my jods. Very comfy. The neoprene calf is elastic and can fit almost any leg width. I bought the Greta Fuchsia and I love them! I know you are not supposed to ride in these because of the tread but I do and Ive never had a problem. I also have the Muck Boot Tyne and they are a little neater in the leg but again very comfy.

My calves are 17" and I can even wear my jeans tucked inside my Derwents without my circulation being cut off. My Derwents look just like your link, except they have a reinforced toe rather than a steel one. I'd be quite interested in getting some of your type though.... especially as Jack's just had front shoes put back on!!! :giggle: The neoprene stretched a LOT.... and they keep your feet toasty!

i have very VERY wide calfs and can wear MB's with leggings.

I can wear with jeans but find after a while my legs start to go tingly!

I just fold mine down to get on and off (makes it much easier) and keep them folded down with jeans and joggy bottems on!

I have even converted OH! He has a pair!

Oh yes... the fold-down option.... mine have been down all autumn whilst it's been fairly dry.... I've only upped them since it started raining in the last fortnight. You can also take the insole out in the summer as this helps to keep your feet cooler if you want to keep wearing them....

They fit a wide calf...last winter I had leggings jeans and overtrousers all tucked in over two pairs of socks!!

Negatives they tend to split around the heel quite quickly for the price (mindyou I wear yard boots for about four-five hours a day 7 days a week so a tough test) and they are very heavy to wear ..made my thighs hurt by the end of the day.

I preferred the HKM version which is lighter but doesn't have toe protection and for this year have bought Derby House winter thermal boots with velcro fastening.

I have the Derwents too and they fit my massive calves!! I do have to roll them down to take them off if I have had them on a while and my legs have got hot - it's almost like a vacuum has formed! :help:

My OHs have lasted for years, my friends split very quickly around the heel (they both have the tynes) and the only difference that we could think of is that my husband doesn't muck out therefore bending the ankle like we do!

I've got these and they fit just fine over my very wide calves - I got a size bigger than usual so I can wear thick socks in the winter.

Just about all my family have Muck Boots (Derwents) and find them true to size when it comes to the actual foot of the boot and plenty of stretching room up the leg. Always warm and cosy whatever the weather.

Stupid question..... are The Original Muck Boot Company & Derwent the same thing then???

Have found them on Amazon they seem quite hard to get in this country. A lot of my searches came up with prices in $

Do they come in men's & women's or are they interchangable between the sexes?

Sorry if I'm being uber thick in this post - but if I'm paying out I want to get it right!

Well I'll be darned if I can find the steel toe version in this country :furious: They all seem to come from the USA.

Is it because the "Chore" is the american name and we call it the "Humber"

It has steel toe caps - maybe try googling that one for a better price?

ETA I wear steel toe capped boots for work, once they are caked in mud they do weigh your feet down (or maybe I am just weak, my work boots are heavy enough to start off with!) and they also make my feet cold.. well my toes, because even though its padded the metal bit still holds the cold more than the rest of the boot...
