New 2026 Hacking / riding thread

I had a quick pootle today before heading into town. Fuzzy was super as ever. She does make me laugh, she can hardly wait to get her tack off, she's quite impatient for her reward (ginger biscuit). :D

Off for a little pootle shortly thank goodness. She keeps me sane. My day started off badly, found a leaking tube of shampoo in the bathroom which had ruined my lovely William Morris cardboard tray. Following on from that it was carnage in the garage because mrs mack and Husky had plopped and made a mess instead of using the litter trays. Once outside next doors pesky chickens were once again on my yard. Okay, I have nothing against chickens but I don't want any! They sh*t on my horses food and in their beds and end of the day if I wanted some I'd have ruddy well got some! Oh and the internet isn't working (using my phone connection at the mo) and been fobbed off again by the company that provides it to us. They are sending a person in the morning with a new router. Why they couldn't admit that was the problem two days ago is beyond me. OKay going to breathe now.....................I know...world problems and all that.......... 🤪🤭

Edited to add; thank god for horses! Fuzzy was a star - even when (could things be going badly today or what?!) I hadn't done her girth up enough and me and the saddle ended up underneath her with one leg somehow touching the mounting block almost hanging on by the other. Got off, re-positioned her at the block, did girth up a bit more then hopped on. She has a special look she reserves for me when I'm idiotic. Today I got "the look" whilst fuffling about getting on. In fact, not just thank god for horses but thank god for small steady cobs. Storm would have pinged off round the field with me half on and half off!!! Not Fuz - nice and steady. ❤️

our first argument. Harmony was excited by something she could see up the neighbour's field couldn't see anything. Ride or not decided to have a go. Got her saddled and boots on, a little tense decided if she is ok to get on will go out. Got on first time, she was very forward and excited but ok, rode to the bridge on the way back very fizzy jig jog bit strong, did some turning her around to get her to listen and then continuing and every time she broke into a jog back we went - what i used to do with Buddy. Rode her past the yard in both directions questioned it a little but complied. I was planning to give her a day off tomorrow as booked to go on a sponsored ride on sunday but think will ride her and see how she goes, if she is the same won't take her on Sunday as not fair to either of us. Take her out in the box somewhere on her own and give her a nice long hack solo.

I had a nice pootle at lunch time today but OMG it was freezing in the field! Zoinks I should have put a jacket on over my bp. I got carried away what with the past couple of days warmer weather. I didn't realise until I was on board and I couldn't be bothered faffing and getting off and putting a jacket on. Anyway, she was great as always. Oh, and I had on a pair of ancient jeans with a hole in the thigh. Hhaaaa, so I was prickled on my leg all way round my ride. Must have gotten some straw or hay stuck in there. Oh dear. 🤭 🐴

Had a nice hack this morning in the warm sunshine. Already got my summer riding layers on!
She actually moved over out of the way of the pot holes she tripped on last time. Brilliant, she's thinking for herself.

I was wearing summer hacking gear yesterday but oh dear, today it was not appropriate it was fleeing in the field! Really nippy. 🥶

Cooler today bit still in shorts 😂
Though I am a bit stubborn. It must have been nice at some stage as I have a tab already, though that could be dust and rust 😂

She did her 5 mile ride today, very very hilly, very weary. I got off her for the last 30 minutes as it was so steep wonderful views but constantly up and down hill. She did more than she has done so far and was tiring, came home had an hour in a summer paddock to have a nibble and dry off as she was dripping.

There were 90 horses booked, she set off alone, then she and a beautiful little cob walked together for about 15 minutes, joined a group of 6 then back to solo. Mainly walked as it was so hilly but a little canter and a long trot up a steep hill. So pleased with her.

Lovely ride today even though I had a headache (she cured it!). It was nippy again and dull but then the sun came out - yaye! So pleased with her, she does make me laugh. Dead cheeky - when I'd got off and untacked her I went to put the saddle away and heard a clatter. Yep, she'd come right indoors heheheee. Husky my senior cat was sleeping in one of his beds in the garage and never even moved! Good job mr trews intercepted and gently encouraged her back outside. She is so curious about everything. I've never known a mare like her. Storm was only ever interested in boys and food. Though Chloe was a tiny bit curious. But not like this - she's a great character and a pleasure to ride. I am so lucky. 🐴 😍❤️

Lovely ride today. I deliberately left a huge box full of recycling at the back door to the garage, hoping she would see them - I know Zi would definitely have taken a look lol but she was fine. I like to leave new things about for her to get used to on and off. Its no good if she never sees stuff. Though I suspect in her life she's seen quite a bit! We went opposite way round today and it was great. I just love how safe she feels in big open space - total opposite to Storm!! What a nice patch of weather we are having, I've ridden her for quite a few days in a run now - feels good! 🐴 😍 ❤️
