New 2026 Hacking / riding thread

Really enjoying the school lately, it seems to occupy her a bit more and we do a little in there and then the field. Nothing over the top mind hahahaa. Sunshine again - bit nippy so long sleeves but no need for a jacket at least.

A fun week for Harvey. On Thursday we boxed over and hacked with out hacking buddy for a couple of hours, Friday was a nice canter down the bridleway. On Saturday it started raining as I tacked up, I rode anyway but took the short route and then of course it stopped as soon as I got back. Sunday was a longer road hack.

Also on Saturday I discovered some ominous lumps on Harvey's dock. The vet came out on Wednesday and confirmed melanomas, and he was operated on the morning to remove 5 of them. They used a laser and its not really for the squeamish with quite a lot of blood and smoke and burning smells (much like when the farriers fit a shoe) He's a bit sorry for himself now and has to have at least a week off. I expect I will be sorry for myself when the bill comes!

I may have been lying in the field with Harvey again :)

Aw bless, poor lad. Sending tons of healing vibes. Chloe had melanomas under her tail / dock area but we never got anything done with them - she was older of course and vet never mentioned doing anything with them. I hope he heals quickly and you both enjoy the relaxing down time.

Quick ride today in the drizzle to try out the new set up.
It will probably work for what I want it for, will do another test ride when it next rains.
They've filled in the pot holes including the one she tripped in. Ideal.

I wasn't going to bother with a ride today as I was in a rush for getting into town, but I did and I'm glad. It was a bit windy and dull but she was great and we had a once around the field and back. I always feel so much better after I've ridden, don't know why. I love being around them and love having them just hanging out with me, but the little rides mean so much with her. Gingerbiccies all round! 🐴 :D 🤭 🍪

I am the same. It doesn't matter if it's short. It's just nice to do.

poor boy must be very unpleasant. My week has been equally rubbish, not done anything since Tuesday Harmony's wound is healing, OH managed to fall down steps on Wednesday and been in hospital had 4.5 hours surgery today so i have had to take on all his stuff as well as mine so pretty knackered. Doing hydro tomorrow. Just typical awful timing as the new rescue poodle still has separation anxiety and I have had to leave her to do the horses etc and she has been worried as up till then both of us around.

Hope that heals well.
Is that because he's a grey, age related or just one of those things horses can get.

Little walk through the river after I had lunged her and she was wanting to do more.
I didn't ask her to do anything other than follow where she wanted. She was on the other side of the steam at one point but chose to come over. I told her she was a very clever pony and a good girl. After she walked through it again to leave I stopped and gave her a nut.
It would be really useful to have access to this area to sponge her off and clean her feather.
Standing in it isn't essential but at least being near it helps. 😁
Its a lovely spot to jump in and out of, but that's not on my list and I am sure it's certainly not on hers.

Lots of get well vibes for your other half. I hope you're okay too, its very stressful.

My old vet told me that nearly all greys get them at some point when older. Touch wood Storm hasn't any yet.
Tilley had something next to her bum when she was little and it fell off. I had to ask the vet that they had seen it and it wasn't me seeing things.
Her wolf tooth fell out as well.

Lovely ride today, started in the school and I felt that we both enjoyed it and were relaxed (first few times in there I was a bit tense and I think she picked up on it). Anyway had a pootle and then went into the field. Am feeling great about being in the school again, because its somewhere we can go at the back end when the field goes squishy again. Which it will! Also thinking about improvising and buying something "like" some poles for her to walk over.

You can get those squishy ones now.
But anything can be used as a focus really. Been bags even to ride through and around.

I've got War Horse containers to weave around, but will have to half fill else they will end up in the sea hahaha. I'm thinking of getting some round wood fence posts next time I go to the feed merchants. They will always come in for actual fencing too.
