Hello,

I recently fell off a horse and almost broke my sacrum. I was wearing a body protector and a cheap pair of Shires jodphurs - grazed and bruised to pieces as I landed on my bum and my body protector rose up slightly offering no protection. I am looking for a product that offers protection to the hip/bum/coccyx area... either underwear or breeches/jodphurs. Looking online, there doesn't seem to be a great deal out there - mostly just padded around the seat and knee areas for when your actually on the horse. Can anyone make any recommendations?

Your bp should not have slid up -that is dangerous. A well fitted one will stay in place when you fall off - but it needs to end about a hand's width above the saddle.

To cover the lowest part of your back you should consider an air jacket. It inflates when you fall off and stretches down to cover the lower part of your spine. My OH was bruised through his bp and now wears an air jacket as well.

He wears it over a bp, because an air jacket may not be 100% reliable to inflate in a fall.
If one falls off in just a bp (like I wear) it is true that one's lower back gets a bit bruised, but it hasnt been that bad when I have fallen, even on tarmac.

You cant actually protect yourself against all possible injuries when riding a horse.

High waisted breeches with your top tucked in might protect your skin more?

Was your BP professionally fitted? As they shouldn't rise up.

I'm personally not a fan of the air jackets, but they may be worth considering.

I'm assuming if you hit your head, you'll be replacing your hat too :)

Thank you for the suggestions so far - I have considered going for an air jacket just contemplating if it is worth the investment or if there is anything else out there. Is there a specifically good one recommendable? I didn't have my BP professionally fitted but it seems to fit okay... it only rose up slightly not completely, it is a flexi ASG so paid quite a lot for it. I think it is inevitable to rise up a few inches given it's flexible and the type of fall? I thankfully did not hit my head so won't need to replace my hat atleast. I was grazed and bruised through my jodhpurs which is making me think I need a more durable, protective kind. Ideally I would like foam ones - I did see some Eurostar ESX protection breeches but can't seem to find a supplier other than £200 on Amazon.
