Part Loan how much do you pay?

I no longer have my part-loan - but I used to pay £25/week for 3 days a week. He was stabled DIY at a yard with good amenities - indoor and outdoor schools, excellent hacking and on the doorstep of the beach. I had full responsibility of him on my days - which during winter months when he was in including turn out, bring in, muck out, nets, feeds, water, grooming, exercise. During the summer it was a lot easier as he was out 24/7 and it wasn't as important whether he was exercised as much.

He was a very active 21 year old (who was surprisingly a handful for his age). Because of this there were certain restrictions - I couldn't gallop him or do much jumping (just pop the occasional low fence).

I think you need to take into consideration all the factors on offer before arriving at the final price. If I had been paying half the costs of livery and shoes it would have worked out way too expensive when compared against what else is available for part loan.

Hope this helps.

Thanks doolalay - Ok its £45 a week, £40 trim. I'm thinking £15 - for 2 days week days that is. Lovely facilities. 30 minute riding a day only - does this sound fair?

One thing I would point out is the riding time limit.

30 mins a day is quite restricting, only one hour a week in effect.

Also is this the percheron who needs a fair bit of work and bringing on?? I'll be brutally honest I would not be expecting to pay at all if that is the case as they are actually helping you out.Sorry if got that wrong and he's a good all rounder that they can do most activities with safely,in which case £15 sounds very reasonable indeed!!

BTW if he is the one I'm thinking of then please don't take offence at my comment,is only my opinion based on when I was advertising for help with mine who needed work etc.I was not expecting financial contribution as they were in effect helping me by spending the time and doing the work I didn't have time to.
Everyone's situation is different though and hope it works out well for you whatever you decide:)

I only charge my sharer half the cost of my mare's shoes, which works out about £20 every 6 weeks as she is only shod at the front.

It really helps me out that she rides 2 or 3 times a week as I need to keep my mare fit, and she also does the poo picking on the days she rides - which helps when I'm at work.

So our arrangement benefits both of us. She can ride for as long as she likes, although at the moment the nights are drawing in (she rides after work) so we may need to think about swapping for an early morning ride.

Good luck - I hope the arrangement works out for you?

Per month i pay £58 in summer and £76 in winter, it's quite good acctually cos i've got a big outdoor arena, miles of good hacking with no cars around and a XC course. :D

Why can the horse only be ridden for 30 minutes a day? is it in recovery from an injury? if thats the case, you might want to reconsider getting a sharer at all.

I pay £75/month (half the livery cost) and have unlimited use of my mare. I am allowed to do what i like with her and essentially treat her as my own.

that price for only 30 mins a day, two days a weeks is a bit off putting tbh, the two that i enquired about recently were £15 and £15 per week for 3/4 days a week and unlimited riding.

I totally agree.

My sharer pays me £100.00 per calendar month but my lad is on full livery. She does three to four days a week and on her days, she treats my horse as if he belonged to her. I think that it is most unfair for you ask someone for money to "share" or "part-loan" your horse and then tell them that they can only ride for half an hour per time?? What if they want to go hacking??? Iim also assuming that you want stable jobs doing?

To put it bluntly, if I had phoned about your horse and got that response, I wouldn't be interested at all. Far too restrictive, makes me wonder why you want a sharer at all - it sounds like you just want to make money out of your horse, to be honest!

I wouldn't pay anything to ride for 2 x half hour slots. A share usually means that the sharer has the horse a couple of days a week do do (within reason) as they wish and to treat the horse as their own

gosh you pay a lot for a trim. no way would i pay 15 for only an hourse ride a week i could rent a stable for that. i use to charge 15 a week and one girl use to ride all week end for that on one of my horses

I'm curious to know why you've set a 30 min restriction on riding too.....

Makes £15/week very steep indeed - you'd just get on and you'd have to get off!!!!

Perhaps I should have been clearer, Oscar only works 30 minutes at a time NOT INCLUDING working in cooling down.

Oscar costs roughly £75 a week to keep, stable jobs optional I wanted him to be spoilt brushed and faffed with.

Luckly for me I have a lovely lady who wants to share him, was willing to pay £20 a week I said £15 and apples expected. She has 2 of her own horses on loan that due to illness she's to big for. She wants to spend time around horses practising natural horseman ship as she throughly enjoys it and she thinks Oscar is perfect.

She can ride but it isnt the biggest thing for her, she believes shes found the perfect situation. Me and Oscar found our own Mary Poppins who asked to do his bed so I dont have too on her days! She also offered to do Bobs if i get stuck at work......

Ps Oscar isnt in heavy work as he runs out of steam quickly, its been drilled into me quality not quantity when re shcooling a heavy driving horse!!:p
