People with thoroughbreds - what saddle do you use?

Hi everyone - i am having a bit of a nightmare finding saddles for our horses at the moment.

We have thoroughbreds that we need saddles for. Have spoken to the saddler who has recommended a saddle and priced it up at £360 each.

We need to get 3 saddles so as you can see - at £360 each that is going to easily be over £1000.

Might not be a problem for the people who have lots of disposable income on the forum - however for those on a budget - it is quite a lot of money.

So - my question is to those who own thoroughbreds on the forum - what saddle do you use for your high withered horse?

i used a barsnby saddle on my TB - he was v narrow and had high withers - fitted really well on him
maybe look for second hand saddles - if you have a make/size etc then try looking no ebay for second hand bargains

The wintec close contact seem to be good for TB's and you can adjust the gullet width if needed.

I've got a Wintec 2000 on mine at the moment. If you're on a budget I don't think you're going to find much new for less than that sort of money, not that I'd put on a horse of mine's back anyway.

I've got a Thorowgood synthetic high wither GP. Fits him great - I bought it new for £300 I think, about 18 months ago - maybe you could find some second-hand?

Snap. Thorowgood T4 3D, hi-wither (changeable gullet and fish), I love mine. I bought mine in may for £370 including a new girth (£20) and the fitting. Highly recommend them.

My TB has a leather Sabre saddle. It was second hand and we love it We had a horrible time with adjustable saddles, so we tried a few wool flocked ones, and the Sabre came up trumps

I'd see what your local saddle fitters have in second hand. If you're buying three saddles, they might be prepared to do you a decent deal.

Lady's previous owner had a saddle made for her as she doesnt fit the normal saddles that easily.

Bandit has a John Whitaker jumping saddle for jumping and a Derby House Samber for showing. Both saddles have an adjustable prolite pad underneath.

Me too!!! I LOVE my saddle and it fits Elouise perfectly xx

we have 2 tb`s,the one i brought for my lil girl recently was a wintec cair system,and it fits real well.we did have a few other ones tried on aswell but i was happiest with the wintec.
I did buy it new but at the time i could afford to i have however seen a few second hand ones on ebay real cheep,so if you know what size you need and also bear in mind these have the changable gullet.

Saddle company as its adjustable - he didn't agree with Wintec like many haven't!

thorowgood hi-wither seems to be a good option for lots of TBS... certainly the best budget option.

I personally have a Prestige dressage and Stubben jumping on my TB, but either would be more than £300 second hand... unless you went for a very old Stubben.
