Last night I came up the yard to find June had managed to get hold of a bin full of calm and condition mix and had scoffed about 1/4 of a bin unsoaked! It says in big letters on the bag that it must be soaked. Rang the vet who said to just keep an eye on her and watch for signs of colic. Stayed up for about 6 hours and she seemed ok.
Came back down this morning and she was okish, she didn't want me touching her belly and was very clingy and cuddly. I put jazz out and mucked her out so I could monitor what poos she has done, she had a drink and a wee while I was there and was nibbling some hay. She is however very shuffily, quiet and usually when I turn jazz out she screams like a banshee and she hasn't even made a squeak! Left her on her own to chill out in the quiet as she is the only one 'in' although she can see horses in the fields and there's a shetty who has the option to wonder in and out of it's field to it's pen. She is defo not herself. Vet advised still just to keep an eye on her but if she hasn't coliced yet she probs won't but she is obv very uncomfortable!
I've had to go home to dog sit but friend is keeping an eye and sending me updates!

Any one had experiences of horses getting there hooves on stuff they shouldnt and what did u do?

I always remember a horse getting into the feed room and eating a mssive amount of dry sugar beet! Same advice as you have been given keep an eye on them. Felt very sorry for themselves for a a day similar to little June. No ill effects. Just keep an eye on her and im sure she will be fine if she was going to colic she would of. She will be feeling very full and bloated. You know like when you have eaten too much food you want to sleep and feel bloated and sorry for yourself. I bet thats how shes feeling and like she needs a big :poop:

good to know pony was fine after the sugar beet incident! she is looking very tucked up and fed up but hopefully she will pick up! silly ponyo!

I know its easily said but try not to worry. Has she poo'd? Always a good sign and a noisy gut. Shes probably feeling extremly full and bloated. it makes me feel bad when im like that, im sure shes the same.

im not sure, there was poo allover the box but she shares it with jazz and hes a messy do and so! i mucked her out this morning so i can monitor what she has done through the day. i wnt up at 8 and wont get back up there until about 2:30 and she was eating a little so i would have thought in 6 and a half hours she should have gone?!

Oh yes you put that she shares. Abby has only ever coliced once. I walked her round and round until she stopped trying to get down and seemed to settle. She then started to eat and belly sounded like a brass band. I left her at about 8pm and by morning there was nothing :poop: wise! I has left her with minimal hay but nothing. But she was ok it just seems to take a while to get there guts back in order. Its very worrying though. I hate colic. I like illnessess i can treat like a cut you can bandage and stop bleeding, an abcess you can poultice but colic, is just time. Its these times where i think, why do we bother. Then i rememeber

Haven't been up yet as I am on dog duty this morning but asked a friend to check on her and she said she seemed fine. Went back up last night and she had done a coupl of poos, very sloppy green ones but I'm putting that down to the feed. She had finished her net but still looked a little tucked up. Let her loose in the school to stretch her legs and she proceeded to gallop about and buck and show off so must have been feeling alot better, as on the morning she was very shuffily. Friend said she's still a little quiet but much better. Thank god she didn't colic or it was any worse! Thank you for asking :)

My friends cob and his old pal escaped out of there field one night and ended up finding the feed room. Between them they ate a bag of competition mix, bucket of wet sugar beet, half a bag of dry sugar beet and some chaff. We had two very poorly horses who ended up at the vet hospital. They managed to pump one of the horses stomachs but could not get a tube big enough in to my friends cobs stomach, so he had to just deal with it. Both were on drips as food was absorbing there fluid, they both had feet in bags of ice cold water as it brought on laminitis and they both had high levels of toxins in there body. It was touch and go for a few days but luckly they both pulled through. This was nearly a year ago now and both luckly have no lasting effects from there night of binge eating.

That is exactly what I was worried about!! She was borderline lami and it was unsoaked calm and condition mix, they were using it to put weight on a rescue case! Lots of sugar :( she didn't colic thank god but had a lot of it for a pony that has no hard feed and limited hay. I was tearing my hair out. She is staying in for a few days to "detox", was ringing vet atleast once an hour, I wanted her in horsepital but he said the stress of coming in may cause colic. I still haven't breathed out properly. Just in case!!
