Proving foal is by a certain 'dad' - breeding

I bought the now yearling from a 'friend' I have nothing but her receipt and passport:rolleyes:
 
if you have no covering certificate you would need to have DNA test done, assuming that the stallion is licensed his dna should be on file we had to have one done for one of this years foals as i bought the mare in foal( no certifcate) and stallion now in Ireland,vet had to come and take hairs from his tail and they had to be sent for testing she never had to take blood though,
 
our foal was being registered with the irish coloured horse society purely because stallion is over there so his dna on file,( as owner over here hadnt licensed him)i just contacted them they sent me microchip and paperwork has to be done by vet out she did everything:D paperwork went off and passport was back within three weeks it cost 135 euros but worth it as he now has full verefied parentage passport and new owner wanted:D
 
oh i see so his dna was on file! whats the best way to get around my situation contacting stud owners or vet?
 
would think best to contact stallion owner maybe? or society that he is licensed with ,if he is licensed or graded his DNA should be on file,
 
oh ok, so if he is registered his DNA will be ob file so will prob just test a piece of hair. So best to contact stud? I'll give that a go :D
 
He has got to be licensed for dna to be on file:D good luck let us know how you get on, is he SJ? cna finds bits about him but not him personally if that makes sense
 
Best to contact stud to check that his DNA is on file.
Then get a vet to take DNA samples from foal.

In my experience, my mare must also have DNA tested too to confirm she is dam.
But this is cos the stallion owner sent covering cert to horse board and I got the DNA kit posted to me from horse board.
Late foal register fine of €75 including cost of testing - and dont forget the vet visiting fee.
Expensive hobby :rolleyes:
 
I dont really see the dam owner anymore. baby is now 20 months old! passported and everything however,

lol was just about to type the only other one i could find was racer, i could find few similar to link that why i thought he was maybe showjumper lol
 
there isnt many links is there i have googled him before and i thought google was my friend! he is getting on a bit now

well i guess no other option but to contact stud. I have emailed previous owner for any info...all il say is il keep my fingers crossed on that front! :rolleyes:
 
Hmm, if he has passport surely his parentage would be recorded.

Im confused, I assumed all horse passports must have Dam and Sire and their parents granddam/sire bloodlines, etc.
Or is this for sport horses, competition, TB, that require parentage history.

My 2yrs gelding sire is not a fully approved stallion but is registered by the Irish horse board because his grandsire is Clover Hill, so his passport is blue but his 'family' bloodline are in passport.
My mare (2yrs old dam) is green passport cos her sire is fully approved by the IHB.
My filly will be green passport cos her sire is a registered approved TB on IHB studbook.

Gosh i just read myself, Hope it makes sense.

I hope you have not been fooled, I just find it very strange the the previous owner never register the foal and why not. :confused:
Or is it a different system, like no complupory to register foals like here in Ireland by the IHB?
 
well i used to keep my horses where the lady was. she showed me a covering receipt she had for baldhu cavalier. i was not at the yard when the foal was born, but was there for the past year, since the foal was 5 months old. I have recently left the yard but the dam is there too which i have seen the receipt for.

i am not sure why she did not register just passported

when she was passported (she is with wetherbys) i said about putting breeding on it and they said they do not do it on these passports or something???
 
Oop ignore this comment if you wish cos you have this seen the receipt.
Forgot to add the best easier and quickest way is to get in touch with the stallion owner to confirm that your 'friend' did bring her mare to be serviced by this stallion, tell them the dam owner details.
If he can confirm this then get in touch with the horse register and ask for DNA kit to be cross reference with this stallion and your foal.


Just curious, was the dam's name on the receipt to confirm that she have been covered by this stallion and the stud's details like a shop receipt.

To be honest, in my experience, I have never been given a 'covering receipt', send mare off to stud, their vet confirm that my mare is covered then I bring her home, a few weks, I get my own vet to double check she is covered ( there was 1 year she was barren so i always double check so I have a chance to send her back).
11 months later foal is born, I contact stud to confirm live foal and they send off the covering cert to the Irish Horse Board.
IHB send me a DNA kit for mare and foal. I posted the kit back then a few weeks later I get passport with breeding info.
