You want to always do quarter marks on both sides of the horses quarters.
For a hunter class you don't use the little square quarter marks, therefore using a stencil is out (although you should never use a stencil anyway ). You use hunter style quarter markings, which are 2-3 wide stripes brushed vertically onto the quarters (see what looks best. Some horses look better with 3 not so wide stripes, others look better with 2):
These are easily done with wet brush, sweeping down then going in the direction of the hair to make the edges straight.
Under these you want to put sharks teeth, again using a damp brush.
Fab website. I watched all the videos multiple times! I agree with showbusiness on how to and what markers to use. Experiment before hand and see what compliments your horses bum - if his hind quarters are weak then dont put anything on them- dont want to highlight that fact
If your horse is more towards the lighter end of a hunter then use three downward strokes to 'build' up the back end, but if your horse is more towards the chunk monkey side then two well positioned stripes down can help balance out the back end.
The little squares are actually easier to do 'manually' than the stencils, but they are more suited to riding horses, hacks and 'dainty' horses.
Whatever markings you decide on, make sure the coat is completely free from dust and scurf
ah I just watched the video, its pretty good, though im slightly confused as to the sharks teeth look, its hard to make out, il think il stick with the stripes! he doesnt have the biggest bottom, i think he's more riding horse than proper hunter but his bum always seem to me, to be out of proportion with his ( i think) skinny neck! hold on il try get some photos
