Appley is getting a little clip tomorrow (just half the neck, down the chest and the armpits/girth area, maybe a bit of belly) morning. im meeting a friend for a hack in the afternoon ... stupid question but is that the done thing? should I expect hi-jinx? (pony NOT a worrier and quite sedate BUT having a bit of a '5 year old' stage at the moment)?

After Moëts first ever clip 3 years ago I rode in the sch, first canter and she bronked me off!! Ever since then I clip in the morning and turn out then lunge later that day or next day, then hack the day after!!! I don't risk it!

oookay - scary :frown: was this a full clip?! she'd be clipped, then chucked out and gotten back in again later.

appley's had the armpits/girth done last year and didnt seem to notice.

I've never ridden straight after clipping but not on purpose really. The only thing I would be a bit concerned about is loose jaggy hairs under the girth which might irritate? I always wipe the horse over with a hot damp towel after clipping and that tends to get rid of them and Rubic enjoys it! Quite a few people at my yard have ridden after clipping. I suppose you won't know unless you try (or someone else gives you some better advice!)

Well as I always had to ride my trusty steed over to another yard for his clip I had no choice but to ride him back again & had no problem !

No problems here either, have often clipped and then hacked out straight away on a weekend afternoon.

I rode after clipping on Saturday, I know I know, I'm not meant to be riding .. but was only going a little walk round the block .. but when we hit a grassy hill that we usually canter up she done a little bronc ... but it was odd .. it was a very calm slow bronc .. not her usual yeeha lets go bronc lol, she was being nice to me lol

Well nowadays I imagine Moët would b fine right after clipping but years ago it was her first clip, she was find in walk trot but in canter I think the sudden rush of cold air sent her up! But now I don't want a repeat of years ago so I make sure I lunge first then ride the next day. This time in the lunging she was calm as anything in canter so i suppose next time I wouldn't need to lunge....but my brain can't get around that lol

Some horses I have clipped have been very bouncy the first time ridden after clipping....but that could be a day after, and some I clip and ride without there being any difference to their general demeanour.

clipping postponed for today now (yesterday was very very wet!!), will let you know how it goes. she's had armpits done last year and didnt care much so guessing she'd be fine.

as for the hot towelling - sorry, no such luxury at our yard, we don't have electric or hot water :giggle: will have to find another way!
