OMG Caitlin how wierd!

I was just thinking of posting about rugby pelhams because I couldnt remember if the slip head attached to the loose ring or the fixed ring.

Looks like your slip head is on the wrong side - the buckle should be on this side, the offside - so that you are not left with a clutter of buckles the other side where the throatlash is. So opposite side from throatlast buckle. Does that make any sense?!

sorry to change subject slightly, but could someone please explain the action of the rugby pelham, how it differs from a standard?

It doesn't - but it gives the appearance of a double bridle, for horses that are too green/small in the mouth to go in a double.

However, just to be awkward - the 'feel' of the bridle for the horse can be different in a rugby to a normal pelham although how I'm not sure; My section C was ridden in a rugby pelham in the showring, and was perfectly happy. Put him in other pelhams with same mouthpiece, fitted correctly and used by me (so same rider, hands etc), and he hated it...

However he seems to be the minority - as S_F_S says, the primary difference is nothing more than aesthetic ;)

I too have a horse that does appear to go better in a rugby -I suppose the small difference could be comparable to the difference between an eggbutt and loose ring snaffle... butif you wanted the pelham for the "loose ring" effect then you would choose a show pelham first, with the rugby design being primarily favoured for the use of the sliphead.

Ah, this sounds familiar, there is an idential thread doing the rounds somewhere else on the board at the moment.....

Yup agree with you there - but in said horses case, still preferred rugby to show pelham

Horses for courses:o...and I think I've gone off topic sorry OP :D
