Here in Australia we are about to finish our winter soon and a thought has only just hit me about my girl who is a QH x STB.

I don't rug any of my horses as they are in a 100 acre paddock and I wouldn't have time to go out and take their rugs off in the morning because of school. I have only just realised that she doesn't grow a winter coat.... Should I be rugging her? She doesn't seem to get cold but she has a short coat all year round. She gets it from her sire (QH paint)
She is only a 4yo and this is my first winter with her which is why I haven't realised until now

What are your thoughts?

each individual horse should be assessed as to if they need a rug, you can’t generalise. Look at her overall condition, is she a good weight, too fat, a bit lean? Is she cold? Shivering? Feel the base of her ears to gauge how warm she is. If she is coming out of winter looking well then it sounds like you need not worry.

Thank you. She doesn't seem to get cold, she went swimming in the dam the other night at 5 in the afternoon the silly thing (she loves water). She is naturally a slender looking horse and she looks like she is in perfect condition
