My saddle fitter showed me how you look how the saddle lies against the horse. Put the saddle on , lift the flap and look from the cantle end how under the saddle (under where the seat and sides meet and touch the horse) lie against the horse. There should be no gap or daylight, it should lie flat and evenly against the horses back. My old saddle had a large gap which meant that the weight wasn't being distributed evenly.
