Sarcoids

When I got Indie and he had a huge mass of them I researched a lot, and depending on the type some seem to be better left alone, just keep flies off and keep an eye on it. There is a thread on it somewhere.

If it's small, not crusty or weepy or sore looking, and not placed where it's going to rub or cause a problem then I'd be inclined to leave it alone but keep a close eye on it. Take some photos to compare to, it's easy to miss small changes when you're checking something regularly.

If there are changes or it grows then I'd get the vet involved straight away, things like this are easier to teat when they're smaller and haven't had chance to spread. Don't mess around with home remedies, I know people swear by various ones but there's no proof behind them and if they irritate the sarcoid they can make matters worse.

If it is in the inside of his thigh, the question is whether is gets rubbed against tack or against the other hind leg as he moves? If not, as Jessie says you can probably leave it. Though the view of a vet would be helpful. Maisie had sarcoids and they were no bother till she got one on her face.

This is cross posted with @carthorse - all excellent advice.

Andi got a flat sarcoid on her neck around 3 ish.
Right where the rein would touch.

We treated it with XTis.

It's a bit if a messy process but it did the trick.
We never had any problems afterwards.

She just has a spot with little hair there.

Soli had one pop up on his nostril just after I got him. I didn’t really want to cause him pain so soon so put him on sarc-ex. After 2 tubs it was gone but I have another tub in case. It never came back and he didn’t get any more. When I got Robin I found a couple of very very tiny almost bumps on his outside thigh. I gave him the same treatment. I’m not sure if it was actually sarcoids but they went away.

So I would suggest giving him the sarc-ex in his feed and watch what happens.

As mentioned above, take regular photos so you can see any progress. I had a horse that had one on the inside of the fetlock. Vet recommended to keep an eye on it as sometimes they resolve themselves over time. in this case, it did. It took a few months and then disappeared totally without any intervention.

Tintin had the full Liverpool Treatment at a cost of around £700 and it came back. I tried turmeric cream on it no change. Vet saw it recently and said that to remove it by laser would be huge and she has seen them come back as well. He had the right treatment at the time and didn't work. What is the blood root cream? He is a very large one on his hind leg above the hock, it doesn't bother him, i wash it and cream it and he wears a rug

@diplomaticandtactful Bloodroot cream is sort of one step down from the Liverpool treatment. It is just a cream that you apply to the sarcoid (wearing gloves) twice a day as I recall. Ziggy's sarcoid got inflamed, bloody and painful during the treatment, it was vile to look at and eventually I stopped using it. But the sarcoid did go away after.

thanks, I think you may be able to get it as a homeopathic tincture

You can try applying turmeric on sarcoids as the key ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, which has also been used in horses to manage sarcoids. It's a home remedy you can try.
