I'm looking to buy a rug without a neck for Mikey - around about 200g. But need something a bit cheaper as i have a vet bill coming soon. Looking online i noticed the saxon 600 - 180g fill. What are they like? Any good or a waste of money? Will they fit a thoroughbred ok or do they fit other breeds better?

Thanks

They come up short. Cherry had a lightweight and it looked like a mini-dress... fitted her ok lengthwise though. :)

Amba had a saxon and it fitted her length wise but not depth wise, so sold the rug to a friend who has a similar chunky horse amba welsh cob other horse cob, and it didn't fit her very well, for a tb i think it should fit them a bit better though, they are good otherwise :)

my warmblood x TB has the full neck version. it fits her well but is only just deep enough - it also rubbed her shoulders but thats not really a problem with the rug - its just my horses shape.

she also has the fleece.

ETA - she wore the TO rug every day for most of winter and trashed a weatherbeeta in a matter of days - the saxon is still intact!

hey

well pin has to saxon rugs and i have had them both for 2years+ and they are great, pin is some times really hard on her rugs but these have stood up well.

they are generally a good fit - length wise they are great but as the others have said they arent very deep, pins is ok though as shes not very deep either. my friends tb wears 1 and fits her ok, does look like a mini skirt but covers her belly shes a tbx and has lived out 24/7 in it fine.

hope this helps

lozzie an pinxx

Logic has a saxon turnout rug.

It came with her when I bought her last spring and was probably used all last winter (she lived out then).

She's had it on all this winter too - she only has the one outdoor turnout and it's still going strong!

A vote for durability from us :)

I think they are great i have one on my thoroughbred and it fits him prefect although I did buy a size bigger than normal!

Cheers

Jackson came with a Saxon (lightweight - he had a Masta MW). He is leggy and 16.2, and it did look very like a mini ;) However, in the really heavy rain we had, it did leak quite a bit along the back (and as far as I know it was new in September). He now has a Fal which at least means his belly doesn't get wet :D

I have one of these for my horse - i found i could have done with the next size up as it doesnt come low enough down his legs - but apart from that it was value for money and would buy another one.

Kai had/has a saxon turnout rug.. Considering how much he trashed his over winter ( he enjoyed walking along one side of the old paddock where theres barbed wire) it actually hung in there quite well!!! I agree about the depth..They could of given just a bit extra length

Our lot are in 4 foot 9 rugs, the Saxon is a bit snugger on a Shetland, which is no bad thing for the littlies.

But I agrree they are a bit "Gucci" /"Channel" in their sizing!

I like the Evans generosity of a Wug!
