Sedation

Unless I am missing something. A sedated relaxed horse is hard to clip? The muscles sag and head is on the floor.

Harder to clip than an awake horse because the sedative makes them sweat which obviously makes it harder to get the clippers through the hair. That and I have to hold his head a certain way when it comes to doing certain parts of his neck which is reeeeeally heavy to do and is quite hard! Also with him being so heavily under, we were struggling to move him to do the bit behind his leg lol I won't be dosing him so heavily next time. The alternative though is a terrified horse that won't stand still to clip and is past himself with fear. I'm hoping that will change though in time with the work I'm putting in.

I've seen pony be darted and still run. It shouldn't have happened like that. We world horse welfare and I) then had to find the dart and get the pony.
It wasn't actually wild, just not touched for three years, just shows how some revert back to their roots.

I think I was lucky although he was well sedated I was still able to lift his head to clip under the chin. I didn't worry about picking up the front legs, I was happy that I still managed a good clip in the awkward folds. He wasnt affected with the sweating, I think I must have clipped the sweat gland areas first.
Part of the reason for the IV sedation was that I was worried that he gets so fired up the oral sedation would not work. It was bad enough trying to actually get the needle in, he was practically climbing the walls then.
