OH MY GOOOOODDDDDDD LORD!!!
How the hecky thumb do you muck them out taking less than about 9hours???:eek:
Always been on straw and the new place doesnt do it so am now on shavings with mats but it took me about 6 weeks to muck them out last night :eek:
PLEASE HELP OR I WILL NEVER HAVE TIME TO RIDE:(

I sympathise with you. I am rubbish at mucking out shavings and had to switch to straw as I am sooo pernikety when it comes to Casper's bed and he has a habit of kicking his poos all over the place which is why I decided to switch.

Most others at my yard use shavings and just do a skip out every day to remove the poos and then at weekends do a proper muck out and turn the bed up to let it all dry to save time.:)

LOL. I feel your pain!!!

Elouise is just going onto shavings now after being on straw

The way I muck shavings out is ..... A decent pair of rubber gloves!!!! Pick up all the poo's and then just dig out the REALLY wet patches :D

It does get easier and quicker as you get used to it :D xxx

My pony went on shavings last September, it does get easier and you will get quicker lol I would say it took me about 3 months to really get used. You tend to be more fussy because every scrap of poo is really noticable. My friend puts marigolds on and picks her poo up and puts it in a laundry basket, then just uses shavings fork for wet areas.

Mess is more noticable on shavings - so it seems like more work :D
I quite like them - especially with rubber matting.
Use the shaving fork on the wet areas first then do the same with the poo. It'll be clean it just doenst 'look' as clean as it will do with straw.

hehe - this made me laugh - i'm like this when i have to muck out straw - can do a shavings bed in about 15mins but straw.... my goodness - takes me about 1hr15!!!
x

Ditto, shavings are better and quicker when you get used to them:D

Shavings make messy nags look like they have pooed through a sieve then danced on it :D

I dont like them as they take ages to separate the flakes when putting down a new bale (I dont like lumps in my bed so why should my horse). And big horses scrape them aside too easily. I use Aubiose for the big chap, much firmer more comfy bed, he loves it and altho more expensive per bale it costs me loads less as he was using 3 bales a week of shavings:eek:!

If you do really have to have shavings the key is to skip out any poops as soon as you see them using a bucket and gloves (keep them by the stable). That way the horse cant kick the mess around so much.

Good luck, its so soul destroying spending 2 hours and still seeing dark bits!:(
