Hi, I ride a gorgeous friesian and want to take her out and about this summer. What classes can you enter? Anybody shown a friesian? How did you get on?

I'm confused :o

It's not easy, Friesians are pretty limited in their classes. If there's a foreign breeds class, enter it! The more popular these get the more likely they are to increase in numbers.

On a basic schedule, you could do tack and turnout, equitation, riding club horse, ridden horse, driving type, best condition, senior handler and novelty classes like best black, handsome horse etc.

Turnout wise, horse should have long mane and tail, unplaited, and full feather. Usual showing rules apply to tack - preferably plain and brown, straightish saddle to show off the shoulder, no martingale/boots, cavasson noseband, and a pelham w/two reins or a double bridle is generally preferred over a snaffle in all classes but novice classes and riding club horse.

In terms of clothing, I believe friesians are classed as a working breed, and therefore should be shown in tweed, green or brown is best, with a navy hat, brown gloves, shirt/tie, cream/canary jods and black long boots. You should also carry a show cane.

Good luck! :)

Great thanks :)

I thought foreign breeds, just need 2 find a show with a foreign breeds class now. I was also told M&M but I thought horse had to be a british native. Might pretend I have an overgrown fell :D
