Went out for a ride this morning with my friend who is now doing so much better with her and her mare's confidence. We were going along a road and came across some small marquees in a field next to it, not immediately clearly visible because of a hedge. Luka, in his usual lead spot, said a flat "no way!" which then progressed to staring and taking a couple of steps then more long hard staring. It was clearly going to take quite some time, though I have no doubt he'd have gone in the end, he just wasn't at all convinced. Friend asked if she could try going first, of course she could but on the proviso that she didn't come back past us at pace! Well what a result, her's went past sensibly with Nanny Luka looking on in utter disbelief before sidling and highstepping past in a very unconvinced fashion but determined not to lose his lady. She was looking at him with a distinctly long suffering expression, it's probably just as well they can't talk 😂 . Haven't they done well? And we still have some of the summer left to build on this :)

He's a wuss,, it was his lady that he was meant to be nannying that was brave 😂 . Though to be fair to him he was brave to follow her before he'd made up his mind, for him that's a big deal.

Well yesterday's highstepping and a rather spectacular spook have messed me up today - my hips, pelvis and knees all ache like mad! We only went for a short one today because that was all I could face, and he's still sharp as a knife. It gave us a good reason for my friend to lead a short part of the ride though which again is something she wouldn't have done a couple of weeks ago so not all bad by a long way. I could do with himself calming down a bit though, he may look spectacular but he's not the easiest or comfiest ride when he's like this. My friend was rather shocked at the speed and size of yesterday's spook, he stopped then backed up so fast he nearly sat down and I'm still not quite sure how I stopped the spin he was about to throw in. I think she now knows why I always ride him in a slightly defensive seat even if he's on the buckle end!
