On an island
Well, guess it had to happen at some point....after my recent hacking success, decided (was feeling very bold) to take Storm on a new route. Ha. We set off rather badly after being in the school, I caught my boot on the side of the gate (she misjudged the gap):frown: and it resulted in her being a bit startled! Decided to take the farmer up on his offer of riding around his fields so ventured off into the big one behind our stables. Mmm. My bad:skull: For some reason she took great exception to the sheep feeder and some plastic bags (tho not too bad) but the worst bit was when the hare dashed out from under the boundary fence!:bomb: Talk about ears pricked up and snorting....we jogged home (read: coiled spring ready to bolt) and of course it made Mr Joe the same (they are like twins). Was so cross with myself and her I went into the school and made us both do more work. Got a nice jaunty walk I can tell you.....oh well, back to the drawing board.....a:)

Oh no! well look on the bright side:

You didn't fall off
Storm didn't bolt or run away bucking and farting!
You carried on in the school afterwards instead of getting off straight away

Quite a successful ride really and you've dealt with some more of her spooking

I think a well deserved cuppa and choccie biscuit are in order!

Aw thanks jovi! Indeed, I was quite surprised at how I didn't buckle under the pressure as we flew (jogged merrily) past the lovely autumnul colours....all I could think as we whizzed past the Hawthorn berries, was "oops, hope I don't land in those they look nice but awfully prickly!"......could have been worse and as you say, she didn't really do anything that bad......
I still stand by what I have always said to OH, that hacking is much harder than schooling, Imean, lets face it, they can't really go far in a school can they?!

That's true, although I've always been more confident dealing with spooking etc on a hack rather than in the school! It's strange isn't it?! I suppose it depends on the horse too, my old horse used to be a pain in the school sometimes if he wasn't particularly up for working and would buck and spook for england, but on a hack he was an angel, still spooky but not silly.

At least Storm looks to be feeling more herself, has she had her injections yet?

Thanks lobs, I was quite chuffed I didn't panic! lol. The hare in question is such a gorgeous wee chap (I presume its male for some reason?!) I see him often atm, he is only a small young one, and the other night at dusk I was up checking one of the paddocks, well, I had parked the quad up and was sat there just breathing in the night and he came right up to me, it was a lovely moment, he was so curious, one paw gingerly placed on the quad runner.......I smiled at him (like that would make him less timid!) and he had a jolly good sniff and look around the tyres.....hehehehehehee, little did I know he would be the cause of my spoilt hack the day after......

Well, good for you, and lucky you to see a hare while out hacking, despite the spook!

I saw one yesterday because my English Springer caught and killed it. I was mortified. I don't mind her helping out with the bunny problem round about, but a hare is just going too far!!!

Aw bless, he was probably all excited at seeing his new buddy Trewsers again and ran out to say "hello!!"
