The Freelander Appreciation Thread!

Oooooooooh, me me me me, I do I do I do!!! :D :D

I had a Mini (aaaaargh!!!) when I bought my horse - let me tell you the two are NOT compatible!!!! Although I did love it

I bought the Freelander so I had all the extra room for horsey stuff and I could drive in & around the field to check fences etc without the car dying. So far (and I've only had it 3 months) I've had no problems with it and it's done me proud. Not driven in boggy mud yet, will let you know how it does when winter's here :p

I understand it's not suitable for towing my Big Bertha so I wouldn't dream of doing that - if I wanted do I'd get something more suitable (probably a Disco) but for the moment I'm keeping my Freelander because I love it :)

Oh my mum has a Mini and I love them too!
I had a Ford StreetKA convertible when I got my horse and that had to go, the boot was the size of a pencil case.

I would love a disco but I'm 22 so insurance won't allow it  so my Freelander is the next best thing, heehee

I find they are nce cars to drive and to tow with.

I just hate the amount of people who think you need grunty big 4x4's to tow tiny loads!!

its not that you need big 4x4 to tow, its more to do with being legal whilst towing. Remember its that MAM weight of the trailer not whats actualy in it.

As far as cars go i like them but not for towing anything bigger than a single box.

Again not correct if your trailer is derated to suit your car.;)

I just get sick of people that tell me I NEED a disco type to pull 1500kgs:rolleyes:

Freelander and our Xtrail do the job marvelously!!!!

nikki xxxx:D

my horse likes my oh's freelander, so much that he took 5 teeth marks out of it yesterday whilst I was talking to him when i back back from a hack...ooops bad pony!:o

haha my dad had one, i borrowed it to tow the horsebox, wihtin 5 miles the clutch had went so had to drive a further 60 miles round trip with whatever gear we could get

No a fan of freelanders im afraid, think in the end the only thng that hadnt been replaced was the wing mirrors, even towing my dads caravan was a struggle for it

I had a Freelander before I changed to the Izusu, it was a good car tha never gave me any problems but I wouldn't have towed anything with it.

yes they are fine IF the trailer is down graded but the majority of folk towing do not do this, they think just because they are towing 1500kg they are ok by law. I was stating a fact about the MAM weight so folk no why most people don't consider them as tow vehicles. They are not hefty enough to tow without a downgraded trailer or more than one averaged sized horse.

If your trailer is downgraded and you are towing only one horse then by all means go for a lighter vehicle but most folk don't no to downgrade trailers.

I loved my freelander but it broke down so many times I was starting to develop a phobia about driving more than 10 miles from home (yes really!!!!) and I paid as much in repairs in one year as I did for the car (a couple of grand) and eventually sold it for £500 as a non runner!

Lovely drive, pants reliability. It was only after I bought it everyone said 'dont get the '98 - its rubbish' - yeah thanks for that, bit late now!

*hides head in preparation for onslaught!*

well being 15 i have never driven one so cannot say they are great to drive lol:D
however i can say they are very comfy to sit in, we had one for about 6 months but we had huge promblems with it, i dont think there was a month where it was not in a garage getting bits of it replaced,
my uncle used to have them untill he had to change to disc (he got 2 16.2hh horses) and everyone he had it had massive problems with he would take it out with a horse box on bac and it would brake down before he even got a horse in there it would brake down withough towing as well, it was not just the odd car he had 3 off them and they were all like that.

but you have problems with discoverys as well, as my friend said with her discoverys you dicover a new problem all the time:D
