The outcome..

Total whitewash and have to say I am hugely suspect that this poor horse was put down due to worm infestation, more likely for a public relations exercise.

I occasionally acted as groom for my brother when he was competing his pair a couple of year ago.....I remember only too well the well deserved roasting and tongue lashing I got from him when I jumped down from the carriage, and failed to immediately go to the horse's head and take hold of them by the bridle whilst he dismounted from the driver's seat.

The fact that this horse was kept in harness, but its bridle removed to allow it to eat hay (never mind it was only a 4 year old) just proves the point that the owners/handlers were totally incompetent and should have never been in charge of a driving horse, let alone giving people rides in the cart!

He was put down after being sold on. He was apparently in a very bad way when he was put down.

All very very sad for the family. We were there that day & could have been me or one of mine.

Just about sums it up

How sad for the blind lady's family.

Sadly their feeling that it was preventable seems correct.

A four year old giving carriage rides to the public seems risky in itself, never mind the removing of the bridle.

Sounds like a complete misquote from an ignorant journalist getting his wires crossed.

I should jolly well hope so!!

I missed the part the horse was 4 ! I recall when I drove commercial carriages our insurance didnt cover horses under 6yrs old ( I think it was) which seems a perfectly good idea to me.

I cant believe it was left with the carriage attached to it still, it takes all of 2 mins to unhitch.. that 2 mins could of saved alot of carnage.

Very sad to hear the horse went on to a bad life to. What a shame for it.
