Hi question in the title, Pony has been on Ventipulmin syrup 2x a day for about 10 days-2 weeks now, My daughter has gone on holiday for a week and i wondered if i could try riding her firstly to see how she copes with work and secondly to hopefully get all the "i've not been ridden in ages" bounciness out of her system with the view of my little girl being able to ride a bit when she gets home next weekend.
Do you think by this time there should be an improvement and if there isnt is there still any hope?

Ok ta! will get on the beast and see what happens, just very worried she will still be as ill then i don't know what the hell to do!
Fingers crossed:)

Good luck, I'm sure she'll be ok. I remember a while back when Storm had a cough she recovered quite fast off that Ventopulmin stuff and anyway, you could always just do a bit and see how it goes.

could you lunge first and see if she coughs? a lot of ponies/horses will cough a little clearing their lungs everytime they are ridden for the first 5 mins, then it stops and they are ok. they may cough more on sandy ground when they are kicking up a lot of dust anyway.

mine doesnt cough in walk or trot, only first few minutes of canter, or if trotting long enough to get lungs breathing deeply. he is set off more by farmers cutting and baling next door or straw bedding.

Madam wont lunge- so yesterday you know!
I didnt ride her but aim to today weather permitting, however i dont think she is much better- its not that she's coughing loads- although she was when ridden but her breathing is very laboured and i can hear its not great still leading her in from the field:mad: poor baby!

We dont really know- its not hay as she only gets ill in the summer months and eats a huge amount of hay during the winter.
Think its pollen related, The vet said the only way to make her 100% would be to seal her into a glass bubble:rolleyes:

She dosent really belong to me so i have to rely on the real owner to supply medication although i do buy myself when she wont as i am the one who see's the suffering and its really not nice.
The owners opinion is that if left in the field to rot no-one notices therefore its not happening:mad:

Aw, thats a shame about the owners attitude. Good job you're looking after her isn't it?!! Must be a real bummer if its pollen related - thats the whole of the summer gone!

Yea tell me about it!
She is the most fun to ride enthusiastic whilst being safe pony ever and my daughter was doing really well with her (and i may have had the occasional sneaky jumping session too:o)
She was so looking forward to school holidays- 6 weeks of riding every day, I'd promised long hacks, lessons and a few shows but in fact she has been un-rideable now for at least a month.

I am told she will start to improve mid-september but its back to school by then and nights will start getting darker.
I really feel so sorry for my daughter she was in the stable hugging her crying her eyes out the other day not just because she wants to ride- in fact she's not mentioned riding TOO much but because she's scared of her dying:(:(

Oh yeah, actually someone told me about that for my horse as he head shakes going through rape fields in flower- I forgot all about it. Have a massive pot so will give it a try!
Thanks!

Aw, really hope she improves soon then you and your daughter can perhaps ride her again. This darned weather - if its not raining and pouring its causing them to sneeze all the time!!
