Are they worth the money? I want one for King for the winter as i like the tail flaps (He doesnt like the wind up his bum, and spends his whole time bum to wind:rolleyes:), and i think they are supposed to be really strong. Are they OK for fairly deep girthed horses??

Also, where do you think is the best place to buy them from?

Thanks

Hi !

I have 2 orican standard necks (without the neck covers).
I've had the first one for 3 years - still looks almost new (except for a few mud stains on the surcingles !).
I can't recommend them strongly enough.
The lining doesn't rub, the rug doesn't move an inch and the tail flap really IS effective. I really found the rug great value for money in terms of quality and fit.

I bought one from Robinsons the another from my local tack shop. I've seen threads for "HorseRugs4u" - I don't know if they're worth having a look at ?

My horses aren't very destructive (with electric fencing) so I can't judge on resistance first hand but I know by the feel of the rug that it doesn't seem the type to rip easily.

I would say that they're fine for deep girthed horses - my QH is well built and the rug covers him very well.

if they fit your horse nicely then yes they are worth it, unfortunately Pickle is narrow at the shoulders so they pull tight at the front on him since they did the new shoulder dart thing, otherwise all his rugs would be weatherbeeta freestyle I love them, my mare was deep girthed and they fitted her lovely, just be aware they are sized quite generously :D

I would have a look on ebay ;) some good savings on there at the moment :D
its a while since I had my mare so sorry I dont remember what size she was and what size we had? and I am not sure of the Masta sizings

OK, so they are worth the £85 then??

If he is a 6ft3 normally, but can get into a 6ft Masta comfortably, what size would you recommend for these? (Why am I thinking about winter rugs in AUGUST???

I'd *much* rather spend the £85 in a rug that fits and lasts than in several cheaper (or more expensive ?) versions that just don't fit (I'm talking from experience here !).

My QH is 15.2hh, he wears 6'0" in Masta, Weatherbeeta is cut a bit more generously than the Masta - he has more room. I prefer the weatherbeeta fit, the Masta is just limit. The 6'3" Rambo was too small!! I could see his bum when he lowered his head to eat and that was a £200 rug
I would guess that a 6'0" should do but maybe try it on with a summer sheet underneath in case you need to swap it for another size ?

If need be, I can go and measure the rug ? :D

Exactly the same here. I love the tail flap and everything about them apart from the fit on my tb x id. They constantly slip back too and strain on the shoulders.

hey

i got one last year from tds saddlers as they turned out to be the cheapest online. i ordered on friday and it was with me monday morn at 8am! i also had to take it back as it was too long and they were great about that too.

it was a very nice rug, well made, but just 3" too long

Masta rug : Turnoutmasta ripstop, 6oz filling, rug bought 2002 or 2003.

rug flat on floor :
wither to top of tail flap (straight line) = 139 cms
front of rug to back (shoulder gusset closed) = 182 cms
depth = 98 cms

WeatherBeeta Orican standard neck

rug flat on floor :
wither to top of tail flap (straight line) = 143 cms
front of rug to back (shoulder gusset closed) = 185 cms
depth = 103 cms

Weird but when I see the figures, the rugs seem pretty much the same though on the horse, I swear the weatherbeeta is "bigger"

Anyway, not sure if it helps but there you go. :D
Lemme know if you want more info.

I love the ones I have! They have held up much better than any other brand of sheet/blanket.

They're both 6'0"
Was easier to measure in cms as tape measure doesn't have inch scale LOL

Oh yeah - I take no responsibility for a crappy use of tape measure on rugs, but both rugs were subjected to such use in the same manner ;)

I have the Arion style. exactly the same as the Oricon but 1260 denier and not 1200. was slightly cheaper too as the colour is "port"
