i was out shopping today with my mum. We were just heading through the concourse of one of the shopping centres when i spied my PhD supervisor. I haven't seen nor heard from her since the day i failed. She clocked me aswell. Had we both continued on our way we'd have bumped into each other. I wasn't going to speak to her, still bitter about the rubbish project i wasted a hefty chunk of my life on. However she went and HID behind a pillar. It was all very deliberate, even mum noticed her do it! what a bizarre thing to do! if she didn't want to speak she didn't have to. It's not like i'll ever work for her again. I've no intention of leaving my current job. I guess there is nowt so queer as folk!

Don't worry me and OH went shopping in Morrisons when we spied OH Mum and Dad. We don't speak (long story). So we went and hid behind at the bottom of an isle, couldn't face having to speak to them. So you're right 'nowt so queer as folk'. I'd look on the funny side of it.

See, i wouldn't have confronted her. Although i am still bitterly upset i failed, she wasn't the sole originator of the project, there are 6 others to blame! Maybe it was because my mum was with me? i dunno, i just think it's quite sad as i've known/worked for her for most of the last 7 years and i'd expect better from a grown adult and academic.

god how pathetic hiding like that, shows weakness i recon.
The law of attraction says we are attracted by confidence of others and a natural happiness.

Maybe she felt in some way responsible and that probably made her think you might have said something to her? Not that you would have, but guilt make me people do funny things!

What a pathetic way for her to have behaved. In her position you would at least like to think she would be capable of adult conversation and behaviour!

There are some odd folk about.....lol. I once had a "friend" (use that term loosly) who avoided me for the rest of time, because they owed me £20! I wasn't even fussed about it, but they obviously thought I was going to demand it......weird.

I must admit I will go out of my way to avoid people I kind of know/people who I know will talk for hours/people I dont really want to speak to when I'm out and about. I just usually can't be bothered with the small talk or awkwardness, I also fear when it's people that I only vaguely know that they might not recognise me.

I wouldn't go to the extent of hiding behind pillars, but I will turn up the next aisle in the shop, or head in the opposite direction. Although in saying that I recently had a very awkward situation, where I seriously did not want to acknowledge a girl I knew (long story, cant stand the girl)...I managed somehow to keep my back to her the whole time, which took a lot of manouvering and hovering in strange places (she was with an old friend of mine who we had just been chatting away to)! It was more than a little bit obvious...but it was either that or I had to make small talk with a girl I hate and introduce two people who should never have to meet.

Yup, nowt queer as folk :giggle:
