Trying to do a little research on what boots people use on their horses, this could be brushing/tendon/fetlock/over reach/knee/travel etc etc any type of boot! Please can you tell me which ones you use or which ones you'd like!

Can you also tell me what makes of boots you like?

I currently only use some nice leather knee boots when we are going out on a hack which will involve hard surfaces and I need to purchase some travel boots for when we go on more trailer outings!

Thanks!

For my old horse we had:

Full length travel boots - had premier equine ones, I like the Mark Todd ones too
Brushing Boots all round for any ridden work - mainly woof wear but had legacy ones too
Tendon and fetlock boots for jumping - Roma
Overreach boots for jumping - can't remember name but they were neoprene
I also had fleece bandages for schooling if the boots were in the wash!

Pretty much anything going he wore! :giggle:

Kali goes out in bog-standard, WoofWear brushing boots and TriZone overreach boots . . . nothing when hacking . . . nothing when in his stable . . . and he wears his Eskadron tendon boots and overreach boots when jumping and going across country.

He travels either in brushing and overreach boots (for short journeys) or wraps and bandages (and overreach boots).

He does tend to step on himself in the field, and when jumping (and therefore excitable!) so needs the protection . . . but is much more careful with his feet when worked on the flat.

I have to admit that I don't put his brushing boots on EVERY day, but he does wear his overreach boots every day.

I am a bit overwhelmed by the massive range of boots available but I occasionally hear a 'clipping' sound so I think we might be in need of some sort of boot... still thinking about it!

I do have a pair of 'cooling' boots which you soak in water and then either use as they are or freeze for extra cooling - got them to help take down swelling but haven't used them since it went down.

Turk - When he was riden he wore over reach boots always.
Vel - as He is young Ive always put brushing boots on him if we are doing anything, I tend to use the woofwear ones, he also travels in travel boots.
Jack is a sturdy Fell with great confirmation, he really doesnt need boots IMO and despises travel boots on his back legs so I travel him without.

Bonnie out of work at the moment but when she was being ridden we had

travel boots or travel bandages
flat work/lunging/hacking - John Whitaker fleece exercise bandages
Jumping at home - black masta/woofwear tendon/fetlock boots
Jumping at comps - white John Whitaker tendon/fetlock boots
X-country/hunting - black woof wear x-county boots all round

mine wear some sort of brushing boot for most exercise. i think it's probably easier me listing what i have and what i use them for!

equilibrium exercise boots - general schooling
premier equine sports boots - dressage lessons
norton tendon/fetlock boots - showjumping
WW reflective brushing boots - hacking only
WW club boots - general schooling
Clarendon schooling boots - dressage lessons
WW XC boots - jump lessons and our mini xc
JHL fleece lined boots - dressage lessons

i've a variety of makes of overreach boots (petal, velcro, neoprene) and use them for hacking and flat lessons. I've also a multitude of bandages and tend to only bandage when i've the time to do it properly i.e. lesson days

Harvey used to wear Tri zone brushing boots for hacking, schooling and jumping but to be honest in recent months I just haven't bothered to use anything and probably won't bother.

Fookin 'ell!!! That's like more shoes than even I've got in me shoe rack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like I need to spend more money. Malt has...

Premier Equine - umm dressage
Premier Equine - jumping
Premier Equine - err hacking
Pre.............. - hunting
P................ - x-country
Same ones by the way, sometimes washed.
Then...................................................
His feathers - if I forget the Premier Equines.

I would say in his defence that, those waaay too expensive bits of rubber were alright value wise :D

Nothing, though she does over reach but has never hurt herself thankfully. She will be sporting velcro over reach boots next summer to keep her trousersuit in place!

none

I remember we NEVER used to use boots on the ponies unless they over reached, or we were going cross country (was part of the rules to wear boots)

but now EVERYONE wears allll sorts of boots all the time

I don't get it :spin:

I don't do boots either. I am thinking of getting some Woofwear hi viz boots instead to the crappy wraps I have but thats just for road presence and not for a physical reason.

I bought purple travelling boots which Joy didn't like and were so hot that they only got tried on her (cob sized if anyone wants 'em!) and so didn't use them and went for bandages and gamgee instead.

Travel boots are Mark Todd (weatherbeeta landa ones refused to stay up ! ) though youngster travelled in pro choice boots or nothing as he'd never had extended travel boots before.

I love my veredus brushing boots (elastic-mounted velcro and lightly perforated to avoid getting overly hot underneath) but I can't find any anymore :(
Also have a pair of woof combined brushing and knee boots for youngster when he'll first go out on the road.

Youngster wears nothing for the time being as he's being backed in a field environment so no need.
Other usually wears polo bandages but wears pro choice medicine boots (bought a set of premier equine I've yet to try) when he needs a little more support.
He wore pro choice overreach boots when competing (reining) but doesn't really need overreach during normal riding (even though he's very short-coupled)
Once bought a pair of woof overreach which never made it anywhere near a horse, they were so bad !

None, because I don't think she needs them. I used to have all the fancy stuff, had loads of sets of the Woof Wear exercise boots in different colours, but to be honest, in the school environment they end up with little bits of dirt underneath which I think is rubbish and could cause rubs. When we hack out it is only on grass and now and again a roughish track - again, no boots here. Used to use those leather knee boots when I hacked on the roads, but they were rubbish too, they always slipped down! Paid a fortune for those as well.......tried the synthetic ones they weren't much better.
So, not a boot fan!
I have pairs of travel boots for them - but we don't use those often as don't travel.

Another vote for NONE (apart from travel boots)
I used to use brushing boots /tendon boots for jumping when they were shod, but hated that their legs got hot, and heather/nud etc gets under them. Always worried that overheating wasn't good for tendons/ligaments.
Now they are all barefoot, no boots at all for the last 12 years, thankfully

For Hero I use quite a few .. he's prescious hehe.

For Hacking - Front and Back Woof wear brushing boots and Tri zone over reach boots.
Schooling - Equilibrium stretch and flex boots (+ Tri Zone over reach)
Jumping - Front and Back Veredus tendon boots (+ Tri Zone over reach)
Travelling - Weathabeta travel set.
Turn out - Cheap as they come Pull on overreach boots (wears egg bar shoes) He also wears Sportbac Turn out chaps when it's muddy and when the buttercups are out (mud fever + allergies)
Stabled - I bandage at the moment but would like some magnetic boots for ease.

Sounds alot but he's a bit of a fussy TB and easier to prevent problems than fix them !

Other ponies don't wear anything.... Other than travel boots and brushing boots if the ground is solid in the summer to jump.

During turn out mine have nothing on.

During any exercise Moet wears Equilibrium Stretch and Flex Training Wraps on her front legs. She wears these all the time during any exercise as they support the fetlock area (which is what she injured years ago).

During any exercise Rosie wears Equilibrium Exercise Bandages on her hind legs....would prefer same ones as Moet but Rosie's legs are too chunky! Same reason for wearing them though - because of previous injuries to her hind fetlocks.

Interestingly each time Rosie has gone lame she hasnt been wearing anything on her hind legs...now i dont want to tempt fate so she will always wear something if doing exercise!
