just wondering cos want to give the horses something different treat wise on the floor/bucket. also can they eat berry's because Ginny has taken a liking towards some sort of berry tree(look like big blueberry's)in her field. trust Ginny to be the only horse yet to find it:rolleyes:

Mine are very fond of McDonalds Veggie meals, chips, chocolate donuts and Mcflurries when we stop on the way home from shows :D

Other than that the only treats are carrots and apples in their feeds.

I was thinking sloes as well :)

My old pony loved blackberries - we'd stop as we were riding along, I'd pick the high-up berries, he'd pick the low-down ones, and we'd both carry on with purple stains on our mouths! :D He was very dainty - picked off the berries one by one, didn't touch the leaves or stems.

Different horses like different things.

You can use lots of different types of 'human' food... in moderation.

Some horse like a marmite sandwitch, some like bananas. Most like a swede or turnip, they can roll it round and have fun eating it.

If you use an apple corer to make a hole, you can thread root veggies, like turnips, swedes and carrots... and an apple! on to a piece of rope. That will keep them happy all night.

My Fathers horse ate a ham and mustard sandwitch. My Father thought there was something seriousy wrong with he horse because i was shaking and pulling faces... horse didn't like mustard!

OK, go and steal the berries from the horse right now! Put them into a bottle of gin (you will need to drink some first, so that they fit :o). Leave to soak till new year, thenm drink with tonic or soda and a slice of lime! :D

well, Merlyn's had no ill effect from:

apples
carrots
swedes
basically any vegetable going
peanut butter and jam sandwiches
custard creams (he adores these)
blackberries
raspberries
basically any berry going
chocolate (he gets half, I get half)
peeled banana
rice krispie bars
mints (nice breath)
chips
crisps (especially cheesy doritos)

can you tell he gets whatever I'm eating at the time?:p

I attempted blackberry picking with Kalli. I would have her all nicely lined up then reach out to pick the berries only to have kalli bend her neck around and snaffle the whole lot:eek: After six attempt and one very stickly purple stained horse I gave up:rolleyes:

My fav RS horse (sadly no longer with us) used to love sherbert lemons. He would squeal when he bit it and got the sherbert, but then he would mug you for more. I wouldn't advocate it though, 'natural' food is much better :)

So what does yours drink?
Mine loves (would kill for ) Dandelion and Burdock, 2nd favourite is fiery ginger beer and is fairly partial to American cream soda!!!
