under a rock
i have recently broken in and am bringing on my sister in laws 14.1hh cobby pony who is going well, has been to a few shows to have a look round but i really want to take him in a showing class next time as he is very calm at shows and isnt fased by the other horses, he is used to working with other horses and on his own so the show shouldnt be a problem but what show do i do???
He is 14.1hh and is a bit of a mix, we dont know exactly what he is so that rules out any breed classes?
I am 19 so obviously can go in junior classes,
so do i go in the pony classes? but dont they have an age limit?
or the horse classes?
And what class would suit him??
Sorry about all the questions im not used to showing a cobby pon as iv got a 16.1hh tb!!!
Also when i want to take him jumping in the future do i take him in the pony classes or horse classes???
thanx guys :D

Id take him in pony classes, im not sure if Bratton do I pretty sure you would be ok in a couple of classes at wrekin north.
With showing classes id say put him in the cob class and maybe something like handy pony or best family horse, just to be used to it

but with the showing dont they have an age limit on the pony classes, i supose tho the cob class would be pony and horse tho!!!
thanx hun??
Did u go to the fun ride yest???
Did u have a good time, bet u got wet!!!
what about jumpin, horse or pony classes, i know if i do pony classes it will be non competative wont it???
Think may do very novice horse, theyre piddly arnt they???
that will be next year now anyway, only just started jumping with him!!!

he could do something like riding club pony, or family pony classes, but check out if theres an age limit. i used to show my mare in M&M classes and theres no age limit on them.

for showjumping, i'm pretty sure you'd have to enter the adult classes, even though he's a pony.

thanx, i thought id have to do that, doesnt seem fair!!! Poor lil man!!! Im sure he will do well next year, he is proving to be a fab lil pon!!! We did our first 'pop' of a jump yest inh the menage, it was just a raised pole which we walked, trotted and cantered over, he loved it!!! soon got his attention back from napping!!!
Lil munky, however he is the only pony i know who jumps the jumps in the field on his own, so i guess he likes jumping!!!
also he is soooo cute when i go show jumping and he tags along to watch and get experience of going here there and everywhere he is just glued to the jumping!!! doesnt move, head up high and ears pricked forward!!!
hes sooo cute, doin really well for an abandonned pon which we rescued!!!
hes so affectionate like he never wants us to leave him!!!
anyway thanx for the advice and if anyone else has any more info on my showing and jumping of the lil man than twill be very much appreciated!!! :D

Yes I went to the run ride yesterday, was fun! :D
Maddie was really good, even tho at one of the jumps decided she was a hurdler agian  :D

Right ive dug out my wreking noth schedule and found my bratton one (was in my tackbox :D )
At wrekin north youd have to jump in the horses ring, but they do a frankly frightened which is 2 foot and a very novice horse which 2 foot 3.
Only the lead rein showing classes have age limits.

At Bratton doesnt say age limits in the schedule except for lead rein and nursery stakes, the smallest jumps they have are 2ft 3 and thats in the very novice pony

oooo thanx thats good news then i wont look silly bein in the horse class then on a lil one!!!
Glad u had a gud time, at least she jumps wel ey!!!
sounds like your progressing on her!!!
u still gunna do xc on her???
hey was there a photographer, if there was i want to see her!!!
:D

Yes there was a photographer ( all thought i didnt see him) apparently he took photos of all the horses. The website said theyd be up tonight :D

Why not consider some ridden hunter pony classes. Is he cobby enough for cob classes??? For these classes they have to be 15 hands or under. Also in hand classes as well, does he have long mane / feathers etc evenso for local Mountain and Moorland classes may still be suitable.
Why not have a look at old Horse and Hound at some of the big national classes and winners in there, see what those types look like and match you little cobby pony up and see if can do some of these. Also think about family mount / family type in hand / also best turnout/ best kept/ most handsome gelding etc. Do these over the next year, until jumping better then add that in next year
Good luck sounds like a really lovely sort of pony

thanx for you advise, yes he is the cobbiest of cob and his mane and tail are long but are a lil scraggly at the mo, what with him being rescued!!!
He is a lovely looking pony and is now looking really fit and healthy, after a lot of work!!!
He has long feathers, actually he just looks like a shrunk down shire so would he still be able to do M&M, he has a HUGE neck, hes not too good inhand, just tries to step on your toes so thats why we were thinking showing ridden!!! Also not jumping til next year!!!
will check out H&H for a type, think he would do well in cob and hunter classes, however doin the pony hunter class does it matter that im 19??? should i not be under 16??
