depends what you want to do?

if you want to jump and compete then you might be at a disadvantage with a small horse against people on bigger horses.

I think 14.2 is a good size horse, I am 5ft5, Shay is 14.3, welsh cob x, event/pony club type and he is a brill size for me, and has loads of power, but the agility and ability to look after himself that a pony has.

Liike no-angle said, it depends on what you want to do. It also depends how tall/heavy you are and how much more growing you've got. I'm 5'8 and a 14.1 pony would be no use to me for competing on.

On a side note no 5yr old horse is a schoolmaster - they're only just started learning themselves.

I'm 5'8 and fit on a 15.2 perfectly so at 5'2 it may be a bit big.. depending on how leggy you are.. you might be at a slight disadvantage but it dpends on the class.. half the time the ponys are better!

The thread starter said she is 7½ stone and 23 years old!

I think 14.2 is absolutely fine for someone as petite as yourself.

I'm 5'2" (same as you) 11st and 22 years old and I ride 14.2hh (albeit chunky monkeys like haffies) So 14.2hh will be perfect for you. :D

It really depends what you want to do. Unless it is a registered native, then you're going to come up against age restrictions in showing. You wont be able to do Trailblazers jumping (not sure on the dressage side) on anything under 14.3hh as an adult.

Theoretically, as a combination you should be physically capable of it all to a certain level, but limitations are placed on you by various committees.

i have three horses at present and my fav is my lil 14h pony we're always placed when we go SJ or XC even when agaisnt bigger horses because shes very quick and can turn on a sixpence. Only disadvantage is that we cannot qaulify for TB so im limited to the comps we can enter which is quite unfortunate. Im 26, i weigh 9stone7 and am 5'4 and she manages just fine with me on board. I wouldnt be without her, shes def my fav for fun.

My mates 5'7 heaver than you competed on a 14.2 at a show other day in the horse class and come 2nd :D (out of 24)

Oh, please.:D My little paint horse, Quanah, is 14.2 on his tippy toes. I'm 5'9" and 10 stone 5. And no I don't need roller skates.:D

Quanah has taken ribbons away from many a towering TB over fences, too. I love when that happens.

hiya,

when i got tally i was looking for something about 15hh as i thought id look too big (too tall rather than heavy) on anything smaller.... Tally is 14.2hh:o Im happy enough and feel like she is a 'good' size. im a happy hacker, enjoy leessons and a bit of schooling (never thought id say that, lol!) and i may like to try a bit of basic dressage - but i would never compete or do any jumping, other than the odd crosspole at home if i was feeling brave!

I'm 5'8 weigh 10 stone and used to ride a 14.1 pony no bother. We mainly done flat work but I also jumped him a foot or so without any problems at all!

I'm sure you'd be fine!

She didn't when I typed my reply!

This is my mum on Pink, who's 15.2. My mum's the same size and weight as you. She looks tiny!!!

Unless you like the big horses you'll probably feel a bit over horses on anything bigger than 15.2, or even less if they're heavy built. But to be able to compete as an adult you need a horse, so you'd need 142. or over.
