What does a dog do when you leave it home alone?

My dog used to crawl into my parents bed and sleep with his head on their pillows and his legs pointed straight up in the air. I know this because I came home one day and when he didn't answer to shouts I had to go looking for him, worried that he was hurt. When I found him an evil urge came over me and I jumped on the bed and grabbed him by the throat. we then had a playfight, I was only 13. God I miss that dog.

My dog is left in the kitchen when we go out (he is still a pup and can't be trusted to roam the house!) he has his bed in there so just sleeps.

We work from home from an outbuilding so he is left for bits of the day inbetween us going in the house for the toilet or to get lunch etc and every time we go back in he is either asleep in his bed or asleep on the doorstep as we leave the door open in summer so he can go out in his fenced off area. He is quite lazy for a retriever. He likes his sleep!

If I am going out for a short time, ie popping out to the shops for milk, then they stay in the house, watch me go from the window, then curl up on the couch with the pillows arranged just so. If I am out for longer than half an hour then they go in their kennel. No noise at all, little dears. Just go asleep on the straw. They are such darlings. :inlove:

I would say that looks like separation anxiety.

With my dog he barks for a little bit then when we come back in you hear him running down the stairs. Once again his has bene on my parents bed :)

Our two seem to just sleep! Someone is at home most of the day but when we do go out, we often find them curled up together on their chair fast sleep upon our return. We ended up getting Polly as Issy hated being left alone and would bark non stop when left....

aww bless!

Is that your washing machine going in the background? That might be upsetting him in an OMG that thing's making a noise and mum's not here sort of way.

He could well have been trying to get everyone out of the building in an orderly fashion, but the cat was [of course] having none of it!
