What size horse would be suitable for me for endurance? I'm 5ft1 and 8 stone.

I was thinking 14.2 as a minimum but not really sure how big that is - lol - with Riley being 16.1 so if anyone has pics for me to see heights compared to height of rider etc that would be fab too. Also an excuse to see your lovely horses :D

This is me (5"3) on Harvey (15.1hh) - he is very chunky though and takes up loooooads of leg.

Personally I'd be comfortable on anything over 14hh and given choice would go for 14.2hh/14.3hh (easier to hop on and off!) but maybe you prefer your horses bigger.

Um, well I'm 5ft 1 and Harvey is 13.3hh.

I think anything from around 14hh upwards would proably be fine.

Have you done any endurance? I think unless get you get proper into it couldn't Riley do it? but then again buy a new horsie...go on then we get to look at piccies lol :p:)

LOL - LF you naughty girl you, encouraging me to buy :)

I'm not selling Riley - i'm giving him to the OH and we're looking for another horse for me. Riley is ideal for endurance and takes the OH well - we decided it would be easier to find a horse suitable for me rather than one for the OH as the ones suitable were way out of our budget or they were carbon copies of Riley - lol. Plus it would be nice to have a horse that i was not too nervous to hack out on and would go out on its own.

BC - Harvey's luuuuurvleyyy :) 15.1 is still quite big isn't it?

here you go - Ruby is 14.2 / 14.3 (depending on if she's just had her feet done and who's measuring her!!)

I am 5ft 3 and also 8 stone so you should get a fairly good comparison from my photo.

I find Ruby an ideal size for me - easy to groom etc as not too high to reach when on the ground and i feel a good height up when riding, she feels like a horse not a pony to be honest.

I think it depends on how wide they are up, as much as how tall they are.

I am 5'10 and Iggy is 15.2

I personally feel he is tall enough for me although I am hoping he still has a bit of filling out to do (might be a bit optimistic seeing as he is 6!) as I'd prefer him to take up a bit more leg.

I reckon at your height you would be fine on 14 - 14.2hh depending on their width - A tall, wide horses might split you in half!! :p

At 5'3 you can pretty much ride any sized horse and you're very lightweight
so it just depends what you're comfortable on.

I'm 5'6.

Buzz was 15hh here:

Twig is 14.1hh

Buzz is a cob but fairly lightweight and Twig is connie cross and fluctuated in weight throughout the year. This photo is him at a decent weight I think. He was a fairly wide pony most of the time though so took up my leg well. He'd been a good endurance pony, he never tired!!

I didn't for a minute think you would be selling Riley...I was always encouraging you to have two ;):p It's nice that you and OH can share hobbies though, I keep on suggesting to my OH we should go on one of those learn to ride while you trek to pubs in wales things (can't rememeber the name of the place that does it) :D

Here's a blurry pic of me and Harvey. Harvey's 13.3hh, I'm 5ft 1 but a bit more then 8st :-P

I'm 5'8" and weigh more than you ;)
Although I do have stumpy legs for my height :p

My horse is 15h, she's a middle weight? cob X

This is a picture from when I viewed her, she came home with me a week later.

Wow, Beautiful!

I bet you are really proud of him, he is very similar to my horse but yours has more markings.

I want that horse!

Yeah I luuuurrves him :) he's such a sweetie pie and I haven't seen him all week, my heart aches! LOL my OH thinks I am so sad. He's gorgeous but you can't have him :) he's not mine either, he belongs to Claire1605, but I started sharing him at Xmas and we are going places together :) he's teaching me to ride and I'm teaching him to stop being such a lazy bum carthorse and together we're going to be fabulous.*

*I think I have a crush?!?!?

In my opinion you'd definitely be okay on 14hh! You've seen Julia on Skye - she's about your height and weight and he is only 13.2hh. Personally I think it is more to do with the individual pony than it's height. I've ridden a 15.2hh before that had a choppy stride that I hated whereas I've recently been riding Skye (I've lost loads of weight since I last saw you!!) and loved it - he rides like a little horse!

Hope you're all well - really good to hear that you're still on the hunt for a second horse! By the way, if you want to come up here and try riding Skye you're more than welcome. It would be great to see you!
