What size horse?

I don't really go into sizing so much as what type of bone the horse has. I look ridiculous on a horse who is 16hh and slender, but I looked just fine on a 15.2hh horse who was solidly built (I'm 5'9)You need something that can take up your leg...there are many people I know who are around your size and look great riding ponies, while others just look funny.

Generally though, I would say look for something betwee 14.3hh-16.1hh :)

It depends on so many things that it is almost impossible to say what size would be best.. It depends on the type of horse, how strong a rider you are, how strong a rider the horse needs, what you are going to be doing etc..

But like StormArion said, start looking from somewhere between 14.3-16.1hh and go from there, but don't be looking at the numbers.

I am 5'6 and weigh a bit less than 10 stones and have been riding all sizes and types, from ponies of less than 14hh to over 17hh horses, although I prefer horses around 15hh..

what ever size you feel most comfortable on!

I'm 5ft4 (weight about 10 1/2 stone) and my pony is 13.2hh and I feel very comfortable on him!

It's more to do with what your happy with (and what the horse/pony is happy with) than what 'looks' right.

Well I am 5ft 4" weighing 8.5stone and I have ridden 14.2 - 17.2hh. I looked better on Nutmeg the 14.2hh but I now have Sid who is 16.2hh - no doubt I do look rather small on him but hey ho I'm happy!!

I would just try riding different sizes and shapes and see what you feel happy on! Also, you can set all the parameters you want but you never know what you will fall in love with! I wanted a stocky pony (preferably black with lots of hair and feathers :p ) and I ended up with a chestnut 16.2hh tbx! So you never know!

Good luck! :)

The only way to really know what suits you is to try a variety of heights and breeds/ types. You will soon know what feels comfortable and what you want to avoid !

I prefer a chunkier horse and am happy riding any height from 15hh to over 17hh. However if I was buying a horse I wouldn't want it much above 16hh, to make it easier to transport, get on and off and handle on the ground.

My own horse is a chunky cob, around 15.2hh. I am 5 foot 6 and weigh 8 and a half stone.

Size

I'm 4'10" and ride a 16.2. This came about because I bought a foal and was assured he would make 15.2 tops. Unfortunately he grew and I had already fallen in love with him. He is not too big for me to ride on good days (when he is being compliant) but on bad days he would be too big for some one of 6'. If you like the horse, go with it.

Hmmm i think you'd fit around 15hh. Bigger if you like the feel of a larger horse, or smaller if you like smaller. It's all up to you. I'm around 5'2 and i love horses around 15hh, that height just suits me. Whatever suits you and makes you feel comfortable :)
