My mums friend was telling me the other day that my horse might not be able to be ridden because she has been abused and stuff so she might be frightened

And as some people know on this forum i am disabled and i need a lift to get me on to a horse and the farm i got clementine from doesnt have one i dont think and my dad cant lift me on (im like 8.5 st) so does that mean ill never ride her? (I'm not sure if you can ride there or not but just incase!!:D):(

Theres no reason the horse cannot get through its ordeal, however if I remember rightly the horse is only 2, it will be a couple of years yet until it can be ridden.. I am presuming the yard if its a rescue centre will leave them to break in until later!

The best thing you can do is improve the ponys live by showing it love, and that not all humans are evil.

Riding the pony will be like a final bonus icing on the cake for you.

Edited to add .. to be honest I havent heard of a place that adopts and you can ride also.. I would check it out for sure.

What a great thing you have done though, your fund will help your pony through its life..and many others to

Have you ridden at RDA before? How did you get on there?

I taught RDA for years. We didn't have a lift but managed to get all out riders on.

We had a special ramp that allowed the riders to walk or take their wheel chair up. The top was wide and flat with enough room for wheel chair, rider and a couple of helps (with a handrail all the way around).

The horses were trained to walk right up to the ramp and stand still right next to it.

Less disabled riders get on normally but swinging their leg over the back. More disabaled riders sit backwards onto the saddle (the ramp was a good height to make this easy) and with the help of a couple of people, swung thier leg over the front until they were stride.

That would maybe the best way for you to get on. It needs a well trained horse (just takes time and patience), two helpers and a ramp (which you could have built)

ETA - just read they you've adopted a horse from a sancutry. The likelyhood for you being allowed to ride her is minimal - I don't know of anywhere that lets you ride the horses.

Yes but if we asked them wouldnt they worry about insurance??? I mean we asked a Riding school near me and we said we'd fundriase one and they still said that they worrie about the horses and the horses getting spooked And when i was looking round the stables before i found my lovely Clementine i saw a ex-police horse he is never spooked cuz he has been trained! (the stable that we was going to fundraise for isnt where i found clementine

Most normal riding schools aren't set up to deal with a disabled rider. They don't have the knowledge, facilities or trained horses.

If you want to ride find out about specialist RDA centres in your area. Have a look on the web for them.

I'm afraid you're not being very clear what your wanting or what you've tried.
