Wintec Saddles...............anyone?

Frits saddle is a Wintec (Isabel Werth)it was the only one that fitted him:eek: My daughter also uses it as her competition saddle as it fits Mushu too:)

Mysty also has a wintec it is a GP (not sure if it is 500 or 2000) also a nice saddle although my daughter does not find it very comfortable but I suspect that is because she is used to the dressage saddle.

I have a wintec 500 GP, was actually thinking about selling it. It's fitted with cair (we didn't have the option of traditional flocking, unless we wanted to wait an extra 4 weeks). My first pony, whom it was bought for, went really well in it and seemed to love the cair. She moved far more freely in it than her old wool flocked saddle. She was a welsh cob btw, and it fit her beautifully ;) :) i'm in the process of looking at saddles to back my rising 3 year old welsh cob next summer, so think now, after careful consideration, will keep the wintec as you do have that option of changing the gullets as the horse fills out :)

Ive had a wintec for alex for the last couple of years. Although i did have to change from GP 500 to VSD 500. Because his sholders got big and started pusing the GP round.

Although i know many it DOESNT fit so id get the saddle fitter! :D

I have a Wintec - VSD Saddle with Cair and a Wintec - Isabell Saddle With Cair. I love them both. Easy to clean and i personally find them very comfy to ride in.

I also used to have a Wintec - Pro Dressage Saddle with Cair which i loved but sold it to get the Isabell

Wiffy Paddy is absolutely adorable - what a gorgeous, kind face he has.

We bought a wintec for coops - it is ok - my leg/hip is comfortable in it but my bum gets numb after more than an hours hack - hopefully getting a HM seat saver for xmas which should help.

May got a thorowgood recently - numb bum syndrome again but boy does my left hip ache even after an hours hack - I'm not sure what it is doing to me.:o

When trying May's selection of saddles from the saddler I sat on a Saddle Co. one - it was divine - so comfy and light but obviously more expensive.

Good luck with whatever one you get for your beautiful boy.

Oh yes, forgot to say - our wintec is Cair and it seems to suit him fine.

He has a v.v.v. bouncy trot and I felt better in the cair saddle than in a flocked one - I think it absorbs some of the bounce.

Have to say I would love to have a go with a Phoenix.

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments on Paddy!!!

he is stunning but of course I am biased.....!!

I will look into the flock/cir thing.

I have the isabell dressage with cair AND Pro 2000 GP brilliant saddle's and Albie is a lusitano has not wither and lots of muscle...and these saddles are the only ones that fit him aswell ! I hope he doesn't grow any more as he's now on the white Gullet

I have the GP 500 and love it to pieces. It doesnt have CAIR but my saddler says the cair isnt actually air flock its foam so it does have air in it, but most people mix it up with FLAIR air system which is used by someone else and is apparently much better, and she said she wouldnt bother with CAIR as its not really worth it.

As for the cob fitting, you can get a GP 500 in a wide fitting and they also make them specially in extra wide fittings for cobs so unless your horse is like a table you shouldnt have a problem:)

A new livery recently bought a 500 for her Belguim Braught youngster, having had it fitted by a not-particularly-great saddle fitter and against my recommenations.

He was underweight with muscle damage but has very quickly filled out. The saddler fitted the saddle his shape as it was, taking no account of muscle damage and lack of condition. And suprise suprise, it's no longer suitable - he's already in a x-wide (white) and the saddle is now too curved for his flatter back. She's had the saddle a month:rolleyes: By next month it's not going to fit at all and she's going to have to buy a cob saddle.

A x-wide wintec gullet isn't wide at all and most cobs are much wider than that. A wintec 500 at a x-wide is a very curved saddle and does this :(only the front half of the panels where in contact with her back)

The rubbish saddler tried to squeeze poor Pink into a wide (red gullet) to make the balance right. Shame the wide gullet was about 20degrees to narrow for her:mad:

Sadly many saddler who retail wintecs fit a too-narrow gullet to get the balance right:mad: and the good saddlers refuse to fit them, calling them 'banana trees' ;)

By all measn try a wintec but make sure the gullet is fitted first outside the saddle before trying the rest of the saddle on. It should match the back shape nicely without the ends digging in. Then put it into the saddle and look at the balance - it'll probably be too low and rock up at the back when you press down on the pommel.

I bought a Wintec 2000 GP with Cair when I first bought my horse (4 and a half years ago) and I love it.

I had the physio out yesterday to look at Mimi's back though and she said that it's not a brilliant fit, a bit too tight at the front, so I'm about to change the gullet to extra wide - which I hope is as easy as they claim it to be!

The only thing I would say though is that it's not particularly comfortable, but a wool seat saver has taken care of that little problem.

Also the BEST thing about my saddle is that we had our tack room broken into about 6 weeks ago and they took everyone's saddles apart from mine - they obviously thought as it was a Wintec it wasn't worth taking - although it cost nearly £400 :p

I love my Wintec 500, but it is sadly for sale so I can afford a new saddle :( . It just isn't any good for Salsa's back. My saddler thinks he needs a wool-flocked saddle which will mould to him better, whereas the Cair system seems to be just balancing the saddle on his back. I saw the thermal pictures of the pressure the saddle creates when I ride, and when it's set to the perfect size for his back, there's still pressure on his withers  . However, when he has built up more topline, I will definately look into getting another Wintec for general riding.

I use one of the basic Wintec (material) saddle on Falcon. Had it for almost 3 years now and it's been marvellous. Fits him a treat,

OOOh can you tell me more if you are selling it please?

I've heard mixed things about Wintec 500s, like that they don't balance well and promote bad rider position. But a friend from my old livery barn had one and she loved it and was certainly not unbalanced or badly positioned. Maybe it depends on the conformation of the horse (and rider!)

I'm still biased and say get a 2000 model though. They're so comfy and also prettier than the 500. :p

i have one its the wool flocked type. its fitted with a red gullet on my very wide sports horse. she has huge shoulders. i've used it twice it was bought as a present when i first got my horse who then came with a fitted leather gp saddle, so the little wintec is for sale.
