Please let rip - which model do you have (& which type of horse), what do you like about it, what do you hate about it!

I have difficult decisions involving money to make :(.

i have a wintec, not sure what type but its fabulous and comfy. came with him as his wowner is a saddle fitter and i trusted what she had him in, its very comfy and fits great..only prob i find is it slips when getting on quite a bit but that could be due to his round tummy lol
ps he's welsh cob x warmblood x

I've had both and always thought i would sway towards thorowgood more then wintec but when its come down to the crunch i have sold the thorowgoods and kept the wintecs as they fitted better.

Love isabell any day over thorow T6.

I have a Thorowgood T4 3D GP model for my HW cob.

Tried a wintec and it didn't fit at all although I found it very comfy. Casper is a big horse but has quite narrow withers at the moment so the Wintec Wide was too wide but the Wintec 500 just didn't sit well against his back.

I tried the T4 Cob and it was an awful fit - very forward cut and narrow which I was surprised about.

The T4 is pretty comfy although I did find the wintec nicer to sit in.

It's so difficulrt with growing babies!
I am torn -- Lucy's Wintecs 500 and 2000 are both no good on Lance.
I also have a Isabel dressage saddle, which is OK, but too long so hard to tell if would be good at the right size or not.
I love the Wintec VSD but I assume it will sit more like the 500 ....

We have two saddle fitters that come to yard - I can only afford one visit for the moment - one does Wintec, and the other does TG! ARGH! But I am thinking I will have to call the TG fitter since it's looking unlikely for Wintecs (shame as I love mine!) ....

why is everything so complicated?! I only want to ride him v lightly until the summer, but Rambo's saddle, albeit a good enough fit is jumping cut which is no good for my knees in the long term & also will quickly get too tight round Lance's shoulders.

Tess came with a Wintec 2000 which fits her nicely. I find it very comfortable and she goes well in it. Panels are a bit firm though so I prefer to keep it as a reserve.

I've not used a Thorowgood, but I do like the fact the different models are tailored to different types of horse (unlike the basic Wintec which only really seems to suit Tb types). The newer models also have Fish and a changeable gullet, they look very nice and the panels are lovely and soft, would probably be my choice if I was in the market to be honest.

Joy came with a wintec vsd.

I loved the comfort, security and fact that it put my legs in the right place. Trouble was that it didn't fit Joy properly and only came in the CAIR which isn't so adjustable as flocking.

I now have the T6 3D Cob GP.

Now I have to say that I find it far more realistic and classy looking than the wintec and better wearing too.

It fits my flat backed wide sec d mare like a dream too.

However for my own comfort I prefer the wintec VSD. I naturally achieved shoulder hip and heel allignment. I didn't feel the same way about the wintec 2000 I rode in though. I prefer my T6 GP to the Wintec GP. If they did a VSD in the saddle I have now then I'd make the swap.

At the end of the day I'd say to go with the best fit for your horses and you make the compromise on comfort rather than them.

I have a Thorowgood 3d T4 Hi-wither for Belle and it is really comfy and fits really well, I love it and I was quite anti them before. I now have Thorowgood Maxams (with fish) for my ponies. I have nothing bad to say about it...perhaps the cantle and seat covering is not as hard wearing as leather, but that's unreasonable to ask of it.

I understand that thorowgood have much better pressure test results than Wintecs which have a reputation for bouncing around.

Here is Belle in hers..

I have a cob, would never have wintec ever again, thorowgood all the way! I have the t6 cob

extra points:synthetic but looks leather!

My understnding was tha Thorowgoods fir chunkier horses better than Winecs, which are more suited t TB's etc.

Personally I own a T4 Hi-wither General saddle for my IDX and it fits perfectly.

The wintec was just never going to fit, but I have een them on other horses and they are very comfy.

My Belle is a TB, but the chunkier sort, but if I had a skinny TB I'd still get a Thorowgood as I've read so many posts about bad fitting Wintecs.

We couldn't get a thorowgood to fit my horse :( tried so many different things to try and get one to fit but it wasn't happening.

Never tried a wintec 'cause I didn't want one, but I've ridden in them before and found them comfier. I guess it depends what fits the horse.

I'd prefer thorowgood if it had fit! I ended up getting a leather saddle.

Lots of votes for TG!

I guess I'll call out the TG saddler. He has other second hand leather saddles, too, but I'd like something a little bit adaptable while Lance is still growing.

Would love a T6 cob dressage :D Fingers crossed!!

I have a wintec wide on my round cob. It is really comfy and a much better fit than his old saddle but I do have to be careful getting on as it will slip.:D

ditto! my girl is barrel shaped, so the saddle is not doing bad really!

my mare had a thorowgood when i got her(dont know whst model) but i foundit veryuncomfy and it just didnt fit her right. i got rid of that and have bough he ra wintec gp and a wintec isabelle werth dreaage and i cant fault them at all. i also like the wintec better as they are more adjustable as you can change the gullets etc.
my mare is a sec x x traditional vanner.

also for those extra wide horses wintec ha now bought out a saddle called wintec wide

you can change gullets in tw too, and has the fish system;)

I guess at the end of the day its what saddle fits your horse, i guess...i am bias tho!
