Wish us luck

We are lucky in that so far they have worked very well. I know they will become less effective and I have a line in my head where they are getting too frequent and will stop. We are way off that yet. The joints could also fuse as it is the bottom ones that are the issue and then it will be better. He isn’t actually lame, would trot up sound and last time was only very very slightly positive to flexion. But I know the subtle signs that they are beginning to bother him again.

Yes like carthorse says there are alternatives. I have been lucky that the steroids, so far, have worked so well for him. I think steroids are cheeper and easier so the first choice. My vets feel the steroid risk for lami is not actually a risk.

The vet today was saying she has a 12yo pony with a hock issue. She has had 2 sets of injections but the first barely lasted 6 months so little point in doing more.

Mine barely lasted 3 months both times.
They only other thing my vets recommened was something that would destroy all the muscles, tissue etc. Then i would need to rehap to rebuild everything. It was very expensive and not guaranteed to work. Because of the vets mess up i was out of time on the insurance so it would be very costly.
My other consideration was that i had no stable and my land is steep. Hacks involve hills or uneven ground, no menage so i felt the odds are stacked against him having good rehap.

Still being fab! He went out in his little pen this morning. Reports back are he is being sensible and just grazing. It is just small so I have put hay out too. Being lazy instead of taking the water container through the gate I leaned through the fence trying to balance on the wheel barrow. I zapped myself twice, I think he laughed!

I am pleasantly surprised at how good he is being 😂

Glad it went well.
I have done a second water container to save her walking so far to the main one.
She can if she wants, she just doesn't have to.

He has 2 buckets in the pen. I was filling with a water container from outside as I was too lazy to go round and in the gate. So leaning through fence. He can’t get to the main water trough in the field.

I treated myself to one of those water things with wheels.
Ah the little luxuries. 😂
I get miffed the birds bath in her water, don't they know she's recovering from an ouchie.
