Would you feed potato peelings to your horse?

I remember a pony, who's owner was forever feeding him bags of the stuff, despite people telling them that it's actually poisoness to the horse?

What do you think? I've looked at some other answers, and they seem to think it's ok to feed it, but I have my doubts.. this pony never looked healthy, always skinny and lacking in muscle tone (he died of colic) and was never really happy, always looked forlorn.. he was 25, but in the 7 years I'd known him, he was always the same:unsure:

If Im doing a roast or similar I gather up all the peelings and chuck em out for the horses - gives them something to do tracking them all down :) I dont beleive a couple of handfuls of peel once in a blue moon will make any difference but i wouldnt do it on a regular basis or in large amounts,

I give loads of veggie's and veggie peelings but have never fed
potatoe peelings because I have always been told its not the thing to do.

I wouldn't tbh as there are loads of other things they can have without
any worry about doing them any harm.

I feed bread occasionally, throw a few slices out but have been told you
shouldn't really feed that either...........

I thought that potato peelings are only safe if cooked, I think that this is because they are nightshade family and have small amounts of the same poison in them.

My Grandad would always pick off the fruits of his main crop in case chickens or grandchildren were tempted to eat them. He wasn't known for being over cautious.

I know fol.k who feed horses tatties as part of their feed ration. I have been feeding tattie peelings with other veg waste to nags for years without any incident.

One of our cats is a sucker for potato peelings - you can't peel a spud without him jumping up on the counter and trying to nick them off you; but no, I've never given them to the horse....

I know they are poisonous to rabbits so I had sort of assumed the same went for horses, don't think I would feed them anyway purely because it seems like too much hassle to actually pack them up and take them to the yard - far easier to grab a couple pf carrots on my way out the door!
