would you ride if your horse has lost a shoe

I would ride if it was a back shoe providing horse looked comfortable. I wouldn't ride if it was a front shoe as my horse is always lame when he loses a front shoe. If he is sound and the surface on the school is soft he may be OK but mine wouldn't be.

Yep, if the school is soft and there's not nails sticking out. Unless he's sore of course.

I think it depends on how the shoe came off. If it came off neatly and the horse isn't sore in any way, and the school base is not of very sandy material (causing wearing on the hoof) I would ride, but not for many days. I would also be okay riding on grass.

Roads? No. Hard surface? No. Stony/rocky surface? No. I think I would also avoid jumping, so that the edges of the hoof will not get damaged.

Hope this helps!

I ride the half hour hack to my instructor's yard if a shoe come off, but just at walk, and then do my lesson, but only once if he has lost a she and we are waiting for the farrier, then get shoes. He is never sore or feely if he looses a she though, and could probably go barefoot fine, if it wasn't for the ammount of roadwork we do.

if the horse lost a shoe on a hack i would ride back to the stables providing that the horse was ok.

but otherwise no id just not ride for a few days until the farrier came

Silver had a front shoe sucked off in the mud recently on a hack. I rode him back home along a road no problems. The next day he had his lesson in the school and then had a shoe put back on the same day so not too bad luckily. When hes lost shoes previously I've only ridden in the school and generally stuck to groundwork. Always been pretty lucky in that the farriers I've had generally will come out to you asap to replace them. Also lucky as Silver has never been lame from loosing a shoe *touch wood*

Tazzy only has front shoes. If he loses one, while we're working, we usually continue to work, so long as he's not lame and the shoe came off clean. Then when we get into the barn, i put on his easy boot, and call the farrier leaving a message begging him to please come back because this is taz's third time pulling a shoe since his feet got done 2 weeks ago. *blush*

I ride, as long as he's sound and comfortable.

providing the surface is suitable i would. some horses would be very sensitive on hard ground so wouldn't ride on that but otherwise yes.

Well, I never ride a horse if they have lost a shoe. Not worth the chance in my opinion. I wouldn't want to go to work with one shoe on and one shoe off :D
