Hi,

as the title says, I want a really good shampoo for black horses, and there seem to be several on the market, so I havn't got a clue which one to get.
The one I am most keen on trying is by Oster, but I thought I'd ask you guys first.

Believe it or not i use diamond white on Kia:D

Found it cleaned his coat brilliantly and left a better shine than the black horse shampoos :)

I always wash him with fairy liquid/johnsons baby shampoo mixed in water to get the worst off before putting the concentrate in a fresh bucket and using that after.

Seems to do the trick without me using the expensive stuff too much.

It doesnt help with the mane but Kia stayed pretty black the year before when I was showing. Although he lives permanently covered in the summer as he is sweet itch prone so he has a reflective netting over him.

Vinegar wash to keep a black horse from sun bleeching and give a shine, also repels the flies :p

Best thing for healthy looking coat is a good diet and lots of grooming!! Unless your horse is majorly dirty I would just work on a very thorough grooming as near everyday as possible. It is time consuming but it stimulates the skin promoting healthy coat growth and the natural oils are brushed through the coat to give a natural shine without putting loads of crap onto their coats.

Obviously this isnt feasible for everybody  Normal human shampoo (herbal essence tends to be a favourite after an allergic check) will bring out a nice shine and clean the coat :)

diet and grooming should be the bread and butter for everyone anyway!
I always groom everyday, and my horses coats are great.
- I'm meaning a shampoo for use before shows etc !!

I've used vinegar/water before (well, often in the summer) which helps with sunbleaching aswell, but I'm just after a good shampoo, for use before shows - ideally to help with any red tones aswell.
