The stupid hunt ....

Also, I don't think any of the pro hunters have just implied that the hunt is purely about the control of fox numbers, it's also about the fun of the hunt surely?
I'm not sure the 'pro hunters' would be justified in claiming that the hunt has anything to do with the control of fox numbers! So that leaves fun and ...?

theres no deniying it does help control numbers in some cases, the same as the national trust re allowed the stag hunters, because it was actually the most effective way. im not saying the hunt is effective, im saying it is "one" of the methods used.

I seriously think this thread has run its course now *yawn*, as interesting as it has been. :)

Please can we say "goodnight" and call it a day? ;)

the past 23 pages are called a discussion, the hosting site is a forum, a forum is for a discussion, even the anti hunting people have had intresting and valid points to make, barring a few, its been a great thread, and 99% an adult disscussion, its worth remembering, that theres always new members joining, many who know nothing about hunting, at last a tread that has stayed open! for all to see and ad to!

I agree with this too - on the whole most people have been very grown up and sensible about the whole thing, I have learned things I didn't know I needed to know and I am sure others must have too! :)

Couldn't agree more, but 23 pages is pretty hefty reading for a new member to catch up on! I have been reading all of the posts on this thread and been very interested in everyone's response... i really think a "hunting" sections would be good on this board. :)

Why do people who aren't contributing to the thread keep suggesting its run its course and should be closed? If you don't have anything to add don't add it ;)

I'll second that! :)

Please read back and i have contributed to this thread my own thoughts..... several pages ago :)........... personaly i feel that this discussion could go on forever. We could go around in ever decreasing circles on this debate, and we will never, ever agree............that`s life;)

A pity, because I genuinely would like to know what motivates those who hunt foxes.

im motivated, by a reason to get my horse fit, a reason to drink before lunch time, i love the meet, and i love the boldness of the horse, the chase is on... i dont know where im heading, thats the trill for me.

eta,

the fact the meet works as a team, be it a chat, gates, or holding your horse whilst you hope off for a pee, so in short all of it. theres not one thing that doesnt motivate me.

 Blimey! As i said, i have been following this whole thread and normally do contribute to hunting threads that end up getting closed. This thread has gone somewhat off track from the original posters thread and now only a select few are responding as it is 23 pages long!! New members/people who have just seen this thread have a heck of alot to catch up on, of which a percentage is random (elephants/arguements etc) and not actually related to the advice/problem the OP posted about.

Again, I think if there is this much to be discussed in regards to hunting, a seperate section should be made. :)

Concerning an emotive subject like this there will never be agreement, I agree. However, I don't think it's a black-and-white issue - lots of grey areas in my opinion - and there's still aspects which could be usefully talked about. It doesn't have to be "ever decreasing circles" if people try to move the discussion/debate on in a civilized manner (which is actually what has been happening).

But if you're fed up you don't need to read any more - just don't click on the thread!

P.S. Thank you, JD - that's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.

Well said! There are two sides here that will never ever agree as long as certain parts of their anatomy point downards ;).

However I do think it is a good thread for people to read through as there are good arguments on either side. I for one have been thinking that I would perhaps join in the hunt in my village next year - but to be brutally honest I am just thinking about experience for my horse, running with the others etc, my thoughts have nothing whatsoever to do with foxes.
