2016.... Tracking Challenge( hours -ridden/inhand) add your photos as well

Today we managed ten minutes on board:rolleyes: brisk walking but then she decided she'd rather not bother.
And ten minutes in hand as I'd to get off and walk her. She is I'm afraid back to her usual cheeky self - coupled with the time of year (this always seems to happen) so I wanted to walk her about just to let her know napping and behaving badly don't mean she gets untacked and let back into her field! I'm going to have to build up slowly........:cool: (If only we hadn't to be so careful over the tendon injuryo_O)

Love, love love the photos horseandgoatmom! What beautiful trails you have available and they even cater to the animals!

@newforest I'm going around and around on saddles. I got a bareback pad for Christmas, but do want a saddle. Since he's probably only ever been ridden western I'm thinking a light, synthetic western youth size ( 14"?) I think my bum will fit in the smaller size.:)

We went through the saddle fitting nightmare with Chrystal and I've ended up with a little collection that don't fit anybody! ( Hubby's hair stands on end at the mention of saddles! :) ) I do need to sell them. The only thing that would fit her was a Wintec 500 dressage saddle with the widest gullet they make. That would drown Jaxen though. - And of course now Shady is gone, I also have her saddle!!

The thing is, I'm seeing so many saddles for sale in the local classifieds and none of them are selling! Some look very nice but they've been on there for months.

Boiled down it's:

Synthetic western 14" (hopefully wide enough for him) I'm not used to western fitting.
Wintec all purpose English 16" with interchangeable gullet.
Treeless. I know little to nothing about them and if it didn't work it seems like it would be a very expensive mistake! ( and the long suffering hubby losing his hair completely ! :) )

This evening I did 45 minutes in the school in the dark. It was too dark to see where the boggy patches were so we just walked and trotted. Ben decided that he had forgotten how to trot, so we had to do lots of walk/trot transitions to remind him!

Totals to 4th Jan
HSIH (hours schooled in hand) - 30 mins
HSR (hours schooling ridden) - 1 hour 30 mins
HHIH (hours hacked in hand) - 0
HHR (hours hacked ridden) - 45 mins

everyone has had a really good start to this years challenge! Well done!

I got out for a ride yesterday but not today as we had a bit of an emergency on the yard with the horse of a girl who's on holiday needing the emergency vet out as she had a puncture wound on the bridge of her nose. Turns out she has fractured her nasal bone and needs 5 days boxrest and anti biotics so my friend and I are trying to arrange care for her.

but yes, yesterday got out for an hour, he was pretty tired by the end so I'm sure he enjoyed the day off!!

Peds total ridden hacking :2hrs 20 (140 mins)
 
@horseandgoatmom your weather is so different. I am still riding in a T shirt with just a light padded jacket over it. One pair of thin socks.
No layering, I have just swapped to winter weight jods. I wear gloves all the time riding but haven’t changed from my summer thin ones.

This morning I did 45 minutes schooling followed by a quick 20 minute hack to cool down.

We are lucky here for sure and that was pleasing to find that was a horse and dog watering station!
I thought it was a sign for something going up:eek:
There was talk a few years ago of turning that lovely field into a soccer field!! :mad::(:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
I think that was quickly shot down thank god due to no parking near it.
It is not any place near the great parking lot they have.

Different for sure we were 6 degrees F this am and wind chills way below Zero F
Thats:eek: cold:eek::eek::eek::(.

We are supposed to be 20's today then low 40's for a few days -
I do hope so because my trainer has trails very close to his house that we want to go ride
now that deer hunting season is over!.
 
Ok I'm a bit confused, are we doing hours/minutes hacking or miles please? Or doesn't it matter?

Hacking 4 miles
Can't hack just now as Belle has pulled off both front shoes and my farrier while very good is proving hard to get hold of. Belle is fine on her shoeless feet but I don't want to trot on the road without shoes as they are quite long and I just know they will break off and be a mess.
Gosh I feel rubbish compared to you guys, most of our schooling has been bareback though, which I am a bit proud of :)

30 min very chilly in hand schooling with Andi.
Worked on maintaining space when leading while waiting for the Farrier to come check one hoof
worked on ground tie while he was here and then while he and my husband were talking.
Its gone up to a balmy 17 degrees F.
Iin the sun it did not feel too bad!!!

Ooh it's chilly up there, horseandgoatmom! it's been mid twenties here most of the day but my feet are freezing!

Not really in hand work, but I spent 30 mins messing with Jaxen's tiny mind!

He's still a bit iffy about being caught and I don't want to resort to a bucket of treats, like his previous owner. Well, we've found that he loves to be groomed so I decided to use that as a way to get him to want to follow me. It worked with the donkeys so thought I'd try it with him. So, I'd brush him a bit till he got all dreamy eyed then step away and pretend to be interested in something in the woods ( not looking at him) It was funny, he'd stand for a few seconds, thinking, then he'd inch over next to me and I'd resume brushing and talking. After a few minutes I could move quite a distance and he would come over and stand next to me. Couldn't help smiling, whenever I moved away I could almost hear the cogs turning and through the corner of my eye I could see his disappointed little face, he'd start shifting his weight from one foot to the other until he just couldn't stand being ignored any longer and set off toward me. :)

I had his halter and rope but didn't put them on this time as I think he would soon figure out that it was a trick :)
