Combined my day today.
Had to go to work, which is a job about 10 miles away across the other side of town. So on the way i had to go pick up some Danilon i ordered yesterday, for chunky from the vets. Thanks to someone on here the other week reminding me of a gift voucher i still had to spend from christmas, I then nipped across the car park to the feed store i had the voucher for and stocked up on food and supplements for the horses as i was almost run out.
Still spent loads of money but at least over 50% was free.

More grass cut today for hay. We will be baling i suspect friday when its forecast to be 29 degrees.

Anyone else sometimes glad they are who they are? I could have been at the pub right now, not my cup of tea especially in this climate. Nothing wrong with the pub if it's what you like, my oh has gone. Instead I've enjoyed an evening of guinea pig watching, an osteo visit (enjoyed because my pain has almost gone!) a nice cycle and now with Ale watching the swifts. Hoping to see a bat before I leave. Hope everyone is having a nice evening doing what they like

Im exhausted. Slowly increasing my hours of work as people are demanding my services. Yesterday i actually did a full day of work. Came home and had to get cattle in off the common . Then carried on putting up the autumn/winter grazing paddocks now the hay on our fields cut.

This morning i had to sort out cows we got in. Finished my paddocks. Putting in the wooden fence posts to make temporary gateways. Then off to work. My first thursday since lockdown began. Then home to load cows being collected. Then off out to cut back overhanging trees in a couple of field gateways. As we have to get in them tomorrow with the baler and hay trailers. Just turned cows back out onto the common as well.

Tomorrow ive got to work my first friday since march, then i will be on loading hay trailers in the afternoon. I can see us finishing at 11pm tomorrow. Its also forecast to be extremely hot. Maybe even the hottest day of the year. Oh the joy.

Off out to have a quick ride now. Think it might have cooled down enough. Didnt get to ride yesterday. But i was anxious to get the paddocks finished. I will be able to move the boys onto there new grazing area Saturday. They will be happy. Theres a nice little flush come on the area since we cut the hay on it last week.
 
@Ale I'm glad the osteo has managed to help, from the sound of things @chunky monkey may be in need of his or her services after tomorrow! We don't seem to get many swifts round here, and in fact swallow numbers seem down this year for some reason. Chunky monkey please be careful bale carting in the heat!

I've had a good day. Rode in the morning then a lovely outdoor pub lunch with friends. and a very nice Indian takeaway tonight. Unfortunately there was some housework too, but nothing's perfect.
 
I am who I am because of the choices I make in life and what experiences life throws at me I suppose.
I hadn't thought that we may have bats at the field somewhere, the only evening thought I have had so far is to get a nice sunset photo with the cob in it.

Rode today, she's in season, oh the joys. One minute she's nickering and loving and then the next she's nipped.
Traffic wise we are being passed by camper vans, no caravans as the two camp sites are closed here.
I think I need to set my alarm to ride this weekend, it's meant to be hotter, and hot = people and traffic.
 
Now you've mentioned it, there are more camper vans round here too. I'll ride early Saturday - helping my friend move yards, which should be fun in the blistering heat. ?
 
My backs been getting steadily worse since going back to work (its so physical and ive got so out of practice) and with last weeks 1000 bales the weekend was a bit ouchy.

I'm not surprised, I haven't done manual bale carting since I was a kid but I still remember how hard it was.
 
There i am at 3.30 this morning wrestling with the cat over a rabbit he had just brought in and desposited in my room. The rabbit was larger than the cat is. He wasnt giving it up without a good fight and lots of noise. Youd have thought hed learn by now that bringing them in just gets them thrown out the house. Why oh why do they still insist on bringing presents in. When i put it out on the lawn, floss went out for a wee at the same time, as she walked past she paused for a second as much to say what have you got there. The cat actually lunged towards her for the first time being mega protective.

Cats like to bring us presents don't they. On the plus side I am glad horses don't feel the urge to.
I don't mind if mine nibbles while I groom, sometimes she's licks.

Totally random add on I sent for a bib clip with her in the end but left the beard by her mouth. It doesn't really look as if she's been done. That's the idea, but she must feel cooler.
 
Ive been tracking my long hacks lately and it sort of averages out at 15 minute miles. My regular 4 mile route takes me around an hour. Quicker if i trot or canter it. Slower if i have to do stupid gates none friendly horse gates. I guess it depends on a plod horse or stride length to. But i know that i can work out rough mileage by the time im out.
Fortunately all our gates round the common are easy peasy horse friendly ones, open both ways, self close. So you just pull latch, push gate, walk through. No stopping to swing horse round shut the gate, put silly chains over, or try lifting gate to latch it in from horse back.
 
I have two gates that can't be done from on board.
They are both the lethal cow gates and one opens onto the road. She's got into the routine of turning on the pavement so I can get on though.
 
Vibes for my friend please. Helped her move her horse to a new, very posh yard on Saturday. She got a call Sunday afternoon, to say he'd injured his leg, and was bleeding profusely. He's clipped an artery. Ended up having to take him to the hospital in liphook, and he's on the operating table now. They think he'll be ok, but she's in bits.

He's in the best place, liphook are amazing. Not that that is much comfort. Everything crossed for a quick recovery!

Yes, seems so. He was very calm both when we dropped off, and on the Sunday morning. He's caught it on the electric fence - the blood was incredible. They thought he'd injured the tendon sac, but now they just think it's infected. She's had so many problems with his legs this last year. This is the final straw. Honestly, everything God gave horses in the beauty department, is far outweighed by their stupidity and their fragility. ?‍♀️ I hope he's ok, he's only 8 and a lovely boy.
 
I hate electric fencing, unfortunately I need to use it here.
I hope they are not using the polyrope, I don't know how that's even allowed to be sold as OK for animals.
I had a pint that put a gig through the metal stake at the end of the poly within three weeks of getting him. Luckily healed fine.
